No. 10 Gonzaga holds off No. 18 UConn 73-70 in Bahamas

Gonzaga coach Mark Few entered this season excited about the pieces he had to work with.

The Zags' performance at the Battle 4 Atlantis this week only reinforced that early assessment.

Kyle Wiltjer scored 17 points, Eric McClellan added 15 and Gonzaga held off No. 18 Connecticut 73-70 Friday in the third-place game.

Wiltjer leads No. 13 Gonzaga over Washington State 69-60

Kyle Wiltjer was unstoppable in the first 10 minutes for Gonzaga, scoring 20 points on a barrage of long shots.

That outburst provided the cushion as the No. 13 Bulldogs held off stubborn Washington State 69-60 on Wednesday night in what could be the final game of a century-old series.

Emery 3-pointer lifts BYU over No. 25 Gonzaga 69-68

BYU was having a poor shooting night, and trailed No. 25 Gonzaga for much of the game.

Then the Cougars got hot late, and freshman guard Nick Emery hit a 3-pointer with 1:38 left that provided the winning points in a 69-68 victory Thursday night.

Wiltjer leads No. 25 Gonzaga over San Diego 88-52

A one-point home loss to BYU that made Gonzaga players "sick to our stomachs" was not something Coach Mark Few wanted to repeat.

Few urged his three starting guards to up their game, and No. 25 Gonzaga beat San Diego 88-52 on Saturday night.

No. 17 Saint Mary's opens season by beating Nevada 81-63

As dominant as Saint Mary's has been at home over the past decade, Nevada coach Eric Musselman questioned why he even scheduled the game -- especially for the season opener.

"That's what an NCAA Tournament team looks like," Musselman said. "They never lose here. I shouldn't have scheduled the game. I don't really know what else to say. ... I've been in this building too many times. We were not ready to play that type of competition."

Jock Landale carried the momentum of his strong preseason into a memorable first career start, scoring a career-high 33 points to go with nine rebounds, leading No. 17 Saint Mary's past Nevada 81-63 in the season opener for both schools Friday night.

Mathews leads No. 14 Gonzaga over San Diego State, 69-48

Jordan Mathews missed a couple of shots early in No. 14 Gonzaga's game against San Diego State.

"The guys said keep shooting," Mathews said.

    So he did.

Mathews scored 17 points, going 5 of 7 on 3-pointers, and the Bulldogs beat San Diego State 69-48 while holding the Aztecs to 28 percent shooting Monday night.

    Naar's double-double paces No. 17 Saint Mary's to 2nd win

Randy Bennett couldn't say enough good things about his team's offense after No. 17 Saint Mary's reached triple digits for the first time in nearly four years.

It was the defense that bothered the Gaels' coach, a message that Bennett delivered strongly to his players after the game.

Emmett Naar had 16 points and 11 assists to pace seven scorers in double figures in the Gaels' 110-72 victory over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday night.

Karnowski has 22 points, No. 14 Gonzaga beats Bryant 109-70

One thing was obvious when No. 14 Gonzaga took the floor against Bryant on Friday night: The Zags were a whole lot bigger.

Gonzaga put that size to good use.

Przemek Karnowski scored 22 points and Johnathan Williams added 20 to help Gonzaga beat Bryant 109-70.

No. 17 St. Mary's holds on for 61-57 win at Dayton

Calvin Hermanson opened the game with a layup. Jock Landale was fouled and made both free throws, and then had a dunk. St. Mary's was off and running toward an impressive road win.

Hermanson scored 16 points -- most of them from the perimeter -- and Landale scored most of his 15 off moves to the basket on Saturday. The outside-inside attack swept No. 17 St. Mary's to a 61-57 victory over Dayton in the Gaels' first road game.

Saint Mary's uses big second half to beat San Jose St 81-64

Jock Landale credits his teammates for finding him at all the right moments in all the right places to make his shots at a remarkably reliable rate. Opposing coach Dave Wojcik praises Landale for the ease with which he scores through double-teams.

Landale is shooting at a 75-percent clip this season, and the emerging big man is the biggest reason No. 15 Saint Mary's is on a roll. His balanced supporting cast sure helps, too.

The 6-foot-11 center scored 24 points and didn't miss a shot until 6:49 remained, and the Gaels beat Bay Area neighbor San Jose State 81-64 on Tuesday night.

Williams, Collins help No. 11 Gonzaga beat Quinnipiac 82-62

Gonzaga's fourth straight lopsided victory didn't come as easy as the final score would suggest.

Jonathan Williams and Zach Collins led a balanced offense with 13 points apiece, helping the 11th-ranked Bulldogs shrug off a slow start and pull away to an 82-62 win over Quinnipiac in the first round of the AdvoCare Invitational at Disney World on Thursday night.

Landale scores 20 points, No. 15 St. Mary's beats UAB 76-63

St. Mary's is used to playing in the Orleans Arena every March, having been there annually since 2009 for the West Coast Conference Tournament.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the 15th-ranked Gaels got an early season look at the venue on Sunday, and earned a 76-63 victory over UAB.
