In all honesty, I tried to take a few. However, this was the typical response...

No. We sold the firm to a public company. It was a slow process to exit completely.

As for the coffee business, it's tough. If you decide to move forward, I can give you some mistakes to avoid (ones that we made at great expense).

I do not plan on going into said business, but I am curious what these great mistakes are that you made. You seem rather intelligent, so I would assume they are not obvious mistakes.

The barista's were hookers that were giving blowjobs for a little extra coin. The Denmark government caught wind of this and Maxie's business was shut down.

The name of the business was MaxieP's Coffee Chops.

I'd definitely want to go with the well-tanned bikini babe and college stud concept (relatively low pay, but good tips). I'd offer various iced espressos, frozen juice concoctions, along with all the regular espressos. I'd start with one (walk-up) kiosk, then expand as able.

I wasn't joking about it being a "trap" BTW. Look up Island Fever.

I've had several friends who have moved back and forth to the islands. You can't make rational decisions where to live based on a short vacation. The illusion of it all is still fresh in your mind.

Hawaii has a very low average salary and a high cost of living. There are certain segments of the population who are extremely territorial. They may seem nice, but that's because you were in tourist areas.

I would say take another trip before going "all in". Don't do anything touristy but see if you can live there day to day, because that's what its all about. See how feasible your coffee project would be.

If you don't have anything going in Portland, shoot for the moon though.

Hawaii is great if you're rich as fuck or on vacation. I am not sure about living an average life there. You burn out of doing the same shit.

I hear ya, man. It would be an incredibly tough decision. Should I "run away" to paradise, there would be plenty to give up here:

    Soon to be divorced
    Drab, basement studio apartment
Low-end job that I've had for a little over a year
Rain, rain, and more rain (although, summers here are the best in all the world)
Very few friends here (BP would understand. ;) )
Pending bankruptcy (giving back 2 upside-down homes in GA - See "Divorce", above)
    Zero commitments

    You know, stuff like that...................

In all honesty, though, I sometimes just like throwing stuff out there and evaluate responses. This is all part of my due diligence process.

BTW, thanks for you responses. I do appreciate them (and Maxie's, as well.)

Check it out again, see how it is. Look for a job. I just know there are a lot of beach bums out in hawaii. At least its cheap to live in Portland (compared to Hawaii). Who knows what you can get into there.

You can always throw on a leather miniskirt and work Kuhio.

Nah, she knows all about my situation(s). Thanks for playing, though. Johnny has a couple of parting gifts awaiting you backstage. :)

BP's boss (a VP for a very large corporation) really likes me...actually, has wanted me to come on-board with them....simply hasn't found the right "fit" for me at this point......and has a good friend in the lighting business there. I'm supposed to have lunch with him soon so that we can begin discussing the various particulars.

I'll be sure to keep you posted.

My brother moved to and works on the main island for the electric company. He loves it.

I get what you are saying. The cost of living is high, the salaries are low and the chances of island fever (too isolated) are high. So most who go there to live face some tough aspects about living on an island (I couldn't do it)

But if it fits your personality and you are a laid back, not in hurry, no worries casual kind of person who love ethnic women . . . Hawaii could be the ticket.

The problem with living out fantasies is that you always succeed. In your fantasy, that is. But sooner or later, life calls and that's how a lot of people end up destitute.

Hey, he did offer you a job in Bend. A good one at that, but you wanted to play out your unemployment checks and the job got filled. That said, we keep our eyes open for you.

As you know, my problems haven't been of my own undoing. Perhaps, it's time I take a stab at it. :)
