You shout people down because of the color of their skin. What would you call that? You don't see any problem with telling someone that their opinion doesn't matter because they're white? I was born this way. I didn't choose to be a straight white male. Those are the cards I was given. I would never tell someone that their opinion is invalid because of the color of their skin or their sexual orientation. I like to discuss different topics. I try to be accepting of all people, even those that I disagree with, but it boggles my mind sometimes when I see how you rationalize telling people that their opinion doesn't matter.
I would call that a gross miscalculation at best and bullshit at worst because that's not why I said anything to anyone. The MF makes a whole thread to whitesplain what we should be concerned about in Chicago. Stating that "nobody talks about it"... I simply responded by saying that "no... White folk in here (as well as everywhere else) talk about it all the time in response to complaints about the killing of unarmed black people. You call that racist... I say GTFO...
Your opinion about what we should be worried about INSTEAD of being concerned about police killing us... DOESN'T MATTER..... It's like saying "hey slavery was hundreds of years ago. You shouldn't worry about the affects of that anymore". It's condescending, uncaring, and yes, you should be told to STFU when you do that...
The word is not so limited. It also means; Recognize or perceive the difference. And this may include race. For instance; A black fellow that work in the same lab where I worked had very long legs compared to me. Very noticeable when I stood next to him as he and I where both about the same height but his pants pocket was closer to my breast pocket than my pants pocket. So it was very easy to discern the differences. Not all that unusual either and the list is many if you use your ability to discriminate.
Please keep it on the up and up. I don't want this locked. I think this could be a real education for many of us, if we can respect each other and discuss the issues rationally and calmly. Sometimes it just takes another persons viewpoint to make others aware of things whether that viewpoint is harsh or not.
The important discussion I see it the definition of racism. Dviss1 doesn't like it. I have a hard time discussing things if we don't all use the same terms that mean the same thing.
I think the point is that you, as a straight white male, can't give an informed opinion. Put it this way, say you were getting your taxes done - your mail carrier might have his thoughts on taxes but the opinion of the H&R Block guy is going to matter a whole lot more because he lives taxes every day.
They actually would be pretty close. H&R block is awful. I've known many of their preparers that know nothing. The computer software they use just asks the preparer a bunch of questions trying to minimize risk. CPA well versed in taxes would be a better bet and example.
@Orion Bailey After reading the previous thread, I don't think it was created in an attempt to foster a discussion. If it was meant to be an attempt at that, the choice of words by the OP would have been different. As when you attempt to foster communication on heated topics you must choose your words carefully. I also don't believe the comments in return by other posters were meant to foster communication so imo both sides were quite a bit off. Some of the posts in this thread on both sides are the exact same thing.
And I find that ludicrous. To completely discount someone because of their skin color is absurd. Does a black person from England get to have an opinion on violence in Chicago simply because they're black? Would their opinion carry more weight than a white person who grew up in the same neighborhoods and experience many of the same violence? To say that a straight white male cannot give an informed opinion on ANY subject because they're white is to essentially embrace the very thing that civil rights activists were fighting in the first place. We have people who are experts on ancient Rome. I'm pretty sure they weren't alive to experience ancient Rome, so is their opinion invalid? People can learn. They can experience. They can observe. We should NEVER discount someone's opinion simply because they're white or black or Asian or whatever. I seriously don't understand why I'm having to even say this.
Questioning my motives now huh? So I created a thread just to start shit? No. I don't think enough attention is on Chicago and the weekly murders that occur there of young black men. I post a status about it wondering, asking. Quite frankly I hate the fact young people are dying for no reason yet we have a group of people from the same race claiming police are hunting them. It's just not true. Dviss had nothing to say to me on any point I made on that thread except my original post. Claimed I was whitesplaining and how white people are the opressor. If anything dviss comes from an angle where he really sounds like he might be a racist towards white people. Claims I don't care. Then why am I making a post raising awareness on the situation? Dviss deflects immediately from the topic to talk about white murders. Yeah it's true. White in white crime is up there with black on black crime but the alarming statistic is blacks make up 13 percent of America. We are around 70 percent. For the murder rate to be identical is an issue. I never understood why a black person can have an opinion on white people saying whatever they want but as soon as a white person brings up a black issue, he/she is either not allowed or called a racist, blamed for bad intentions, etc. the way for things to get better is to have an open dialogue without words such as whitesplaining and basically saying GTFO I'm right because I'm black. I understand why the thread was closed because it got off topic and I just got annoyed and didn't care to be serious anymore after being told by a few progressives in the forum the same old redundant mansplaining/whitesplaining shit. My original intent was to have real discussion about it. Kind of hard to do when people deflect and when people deflect, that means there is truth to the original thing I said
Because white people are the devil. America is full of a bunch of neo-MalcolmLittles. But they all ignore the last part of his life.
You know, I've been saying for years that sticking my junk in a blender would suck. I've never done it because I think it would be painful and debilitating. NEVER KNEW HOW UNINFORMED I WAS BECAUSE I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED IT FIRST HAND. So stupid.
I mean I can try to explain how it looks like your using two different topics to race bait. But you just did it again right here... So I don't see the point
Now I'm race baiting lol okay. I brought up cops because in my original post somebody claimed that cops hunt black men down. I related the two in this post. It's not fucking race baiting and still dviss has yet to respond to anything I say with any sort of point. Anybody for that matter. The only people that tried to make a point dmeolished it the second they said whitesplaining, and mansplaining. By the way it's ironic I'm called out for racebaiting by a guy with the name honkicracker
