How is Hickson an asset? Any team in the league could’ve signed him but he had no interest. I guess my definition of asset is different than other fans. I consider an asset something that could bring back at the least a late first round pick in a trade. Everything else is just random parts of the roster. If you consider all 12 of those random parts assets then by that definition 80% of the players in the league could be categorized as “assets”.
So Hickson, putting up similar numbers as last year for Portland on an expiring deal with Bird rights wouldn't bring back a late first for a play off team?
I have a feeling he won't be putting up numbers like that with Aldridge back. He was essentially playing the role of Aldridge when LMA went down with the hip thing.
If Hickson averages half what he did for Portland last year, at 23 years old on an expiring deal with Bird rights, he will be in demand. His PER and most everything else has gone up each year, with the exception of SAC. There is no reason to think that if he got 25 minutes a night that he wouldn't put up close to 10/6.
I don't know man, he was balling even with Aldridge on the floor with him. I remembered some epic rebounding games with Aldridge in the rotation.
I think it has more to do with the players other than Matthews aren't really going to get significant burn on our team; so basically it would be Iggy vs. Matthews addition equals our win total. Then on the flip side, Iggs was a very significant asset to the success to Philly; which would hit them harder (being that Matthews would be getting significant minutes at SG). But in reality, who fucking knows... I maybe talking out of my ass.
and it's not like a guard where the defense can learn your moves and exploit the holes. Rebounding is all about positioning and reading. If he could do it well with Aldridge before, he'll be able to do it again.
Right. Basically I think teams want to see if his Sacramento stint or his 19 games with the Blazers was the aberration.
I have to agree with Draco that our "assets"at this time are not very strong. Babbit and Smith are guys who look like they got drafted too high, Elliot Williams has not proved he can stay healthy. Claver and Freeland have not yet proved they are NBA rotation players. Hickson still needs to have a solid year before he will have much value. I think the plan is that some of these guys will have a good year and therefore will be assets in the future. I don't think there will be any major deals this year.
That’s a hypothetical situation irrelevant to his value today. The market judged his value as less than a 1 year MLE deal, so that is his current value. If he performs better than expected his value could go up, but if he struggles it could go down. If Nolan Smith is putting up Chris Paul numbers he'll be worth a fortune. Neither scenario effects the players value right now.
The one player I was completely dissapointed with was Flynn. I had high hopes that he would turn things around. I guess that's why he didn't find a home in PDX and is having a tough time getting anything of significances this summer. I look back at that deal as a complete waste. I know Camby was on the out; but we should have at least requested a draft pick or something.
The guy flopped in two other towns, and you know he has to be bad if Kahn is willing to give up on him. With that said, I had hopes that he could turn it around but it was pretty obvious that he can't shoot and he can't play defense.
Note to self: If Kahn drafted a guy in the top 5, that doesn't mean said player has any potential at all. Don't be suckered. Don't follow that goat to slaughter. Mana from heaven.
