The same people ignoring him being an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year will be killing Olshey for not keeping him next summer.
Lets not overreact, Gallinari does not move the needle with the current composition of the team. Yes the team is playing poorly this year so far, but this may be setting us up for a very good opportunity in the future when one of these teams decides to blow it up and get rid of a real good player for something more palatable.

Getting Galo would be a huge waste. So you give up a pick or an Essex for yet another stop gap? Why trade an expiring for an expiring? Literally makes zero sense
Bump! https://www.blazersedge.com/2020/10...ri-realistic-free-agent-signing-trail-blazers B/R: Danilo Gallinari Is a ‘Realistic’ Free-Agent Option for Blazers Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report offers one realistic signing for every team. Ideal Role: Starting Power Forward Age: 32 FA Type: Unrestricted You can never have too much of a good thing, right? The Blazers were a top-10 team in three-point makes (12.9, 10th) and success rate (37.7 percent, third) this season. Adding Gallinari would likely make Portland the best outside shooting squad in the NBA.
He would be an upgrade over Carmelo, but will have the same defensive weaknesses. We need better athletes than Danilo. I don't think he will be available for MLE anyway.
I do. The only playoff team that currently projects to have cap space are the Heat. A rebuilding team isn’t going to sign Gallinari, and from what Gallinari has stated to Italian media, he is looking to play for a winner anyway. My guess is unless Miami prioritizes him, he will sign with another playoff team for the MLE. Heard Dallas almost traded for him, so maybe that’s an option. As for fit, I agree, he’s pretty much an upgraded version of Melo. Not what we need to spend the majority of our money on right now.
We have the MLE, not a max contract to offer. We are the francuise Hedo Turkoglu, Spencer Hawes and Chandler Parsons use to get contracts from other teams. Then we have to spend 70 million for a backup like Evan Turner. Who do you think is this superior value the Blazers can sign for the MLE? I'd be super excited if we could sign Gallo, it'd probably be on of our best free agent signings since Jimmy Jackson or Detlef Schrempf. That is both exciting and pathetically sad.
