I think that West is ready to make the trade, but Mullin isnt going to pull the trigger that fast. There are many offers out there that Mullin has to consider, and as time passes Damps stock only goes up IMO, because all the centers will be gone. However, I dont think we should hold on to Damp for too long, because we might end up losing him for nothing (which might not be that bad of a thing).

The ideal trade for Damp IMO is a combination of these two things:
    -Young promising prospect/Draft pick
    -Expiring contracts

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting upsidedownside7:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah it sounds like Battier's Memphis career is over. I think talentwise the deal is fair but I have a couple of concerns about the deal. Battier will take time away from Dunleavy and Pietrus. Pietrus needs the time to develop. Dunleavy just needs to ball with no distractions like Musselhead yanking him out. Battier won't get the minutes he's looking for, then next season he will leave. That leaves us with Stro. That guy is a sheister. Shows up one game then doesn't. Doesn't sound like it'll click.</div>
This is exactly why I don't like the Memphis deal. I've never said that Swift and Battier aren't good players, they are. But neither of them is a serious all star candidate in the next few years, and I am totally unwilling to sacarfice the Warriors cap space next year to get guys that don't have all star potential. You can be sure that the Warriors will be going after an all star next offseason if they still have the cap space.

Utah is a perfect example of a team that didn't make a bad deal just to prove to their fans that they were trying to improve the team. They sat back and waited for the right opportunity to come along and when it did they didn't hesitate.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully, we don't give in to a dumb trade too early and then lose him for nothing in return if we wait too late.

It really looks as though Damp will be going to the Grizz. I have always loved Swift's athleticism but I haven't seen him develope the way he should have. He is a big dunker but is that his whole game?

We already know what we are getting with Battier.

I'd rather have the Custodian back instead of Swift. Man, this sucks. I mean I like Swift's athleticism, but I'm just not sold on him. I thought the move was to try and get good smart players that can understand a system of plays. Obviously he got put in the doghouse by Hubie Brown for a reason. Couldn't we get Tyson Chandler of the Bulls instead? I'd much rather have him and his constant back problems than swift.

I saw this rumor on another board:

The scenario is still being played out, but it involves sign and trades with Dampier and Derek Fisher. The way it seems as of now is

Miami sends Lamar Odom and Caron Butler to the Lakers. Grant goes to the W's

Lakers send Shaq to Miami and sign/trade Fisher to W's

W's send Van Exel and sign/trade Dampier to Lakers.

This would be a horrible deal for the Warriors IMO.

That's awful. And the worst part is it doesn't even make sense. It would if St. Jean/Twardzick was here (because the trade that doesn't make sense always manages to goes down) I don't think Mullin is that ridiculous. I mean the whole Foyle re-signing thing was just the fact there are a very few centers on the market that can do all the things we want (rebound/shotblock/defend in the low post/move the floor well).

So basically why would we want Grant who doesn't come off the books in the time we want and is more of a power forward trying to play a center? Also why do we need Fisher when there are several serviceable backup point guards we can get for much less. This doesn't make sense.

Yea, the Warriors couldn't afford to take on Grant's contract, it would ruin us.

Yeah it would. It's a bit too long. If it came off by this year or next year It wouldn't be that bad. I like Grant's game, it's just that guy is making max dollars. BTW I'm correcting myself: Grant is a center playing in a power forward's body not a power forward trying to play a center.

Whoever came up with that 3 way deal didn't put too much thought into it, at least not from the Warriors standpoint.

By doing that deal the Warriors would:

    1. Improve another team in their own division

    2. Sacrafice their cap flexibility for the next THREE years

    3. Not get any player that is any better than anyone already on their roster.

I don't like to insult people, but that is a dumb, dumb trade.

By the way, I posted this link on another thread, but since it deals with Damp and Cardinal, I thought I'd post it here. It has to do with Memphis getting Cardinal and wanting Damp, though the article says the Warriors ended trade talks with Memphis last week. Hopefully it means they have something in the works with Phoenix, Dallas, or the LA/Miami deal that allows them to get Odom.

I think you mean, escaped from there!

One of their favorite activities is to make totally unsubstantiated, horrible trades and then argue about it for days on end, including name-calling and etc. Although I really like some of the posters there, it's like being in the house when your relatives are arguing, nothing gets done.

Anyway, we really could use another SF, but we can't use another bloated contract. As per the cap situation at the end of this year, we can't sacrifice the "plan" for a cheap thrill ride that risks what all teams should truly try to accomplish, which is to make the organiziation succeed in the long term. Thus, sometimes the best trades are the ones you didn't make.

^The merc board sounds a lot like the Warriors board on espn sometimes.

I totally agree about you Zhone about not making a trade just for the sake of making a trade.
