With so few true centers he could get the max but looking at his numbers is he a max player?

    12.8 PPG | 8.8 RPG | 2.0 BPG | 1.7 APG | 49 FG% | 19.3 PER

    12.4 PPG | 11.8 RPG | 3.5 BPG | 1.1 APG | 52 FG% | 25.1 PER* -- Playoffs

He has played great in these playoffs but I think he should get a contract similar to Joakim Noah ($60m/5years) -- IMO this is more than a fair deal.

He is going to end this summer making at least 13m a season. There just aren't quality C's in FA or the draft that often.

And if he does get that I'll laugh at whoever gives it to him.

i think the main reason he isnt a max player is that he's never averaged over 30 mpg

Productive center who can score/rebound/block shots and has a decent passing ability. He is worth probably right around Marc Gasol money, so I wouldn't mind overpaying by 2m to get him if we lose out on pretty much everyone.

Agree that he should make about 14 mil based on Marc Gasol/Tyson Chandler/Noah's contracts. Hes having a great series against the Heat who have no legitimate C's to speak of. That said, he is a 25 y/o 7'2 behemoth with skill. Even 14 mil for those guys is a lot but it is invaluable to have a competitive C who can anchor a defense.

A max deal would likely be a big mistake unless he gets much, much better. I might be even more careful extending him than a guy like Gasol because a) as 3raniac mentioned hes so damn big he can't play big minutes and b) hes so damn big you never know when his body will give out. Hes already lumbering around slow as hell as a 25 y/o, imagine a few more years and maybe a couple injuries down the line. I guess any extension he got would end before he turned 30 though...

We shouldn't go after him. He'd automatically have a career ending knee injury.

Gasol is heavier then Hibbert and looks like he can move even less. Hibbert hasn't put on mass muscle and doesn't seem like he would have a body that would break down easily, he has yet to have a big injury. Hibbert does seem to tire very easily, that is a big concern and his footwork is less then steller.

    This was my point.

Hibbert is not a MAX worthy player. (if he had played an entire season like he has in the playoffs, yes, but not with the career he has had so far).

Indiana would love to keep him, but they can't have a team salary that is high. They can't afford it with little TV money, and tepid ticket sales.

So, if some team decides throw the Brinks truck at Hibbert, at what point does Indy let him go?

    I don't know, but I don't think they match a MAX offer.

Any estimates of how much a max contract is under the new CBA for a player coming off his rookie salary? Some of you are talking about max as if its $20+million a year but I think it may be closer to the $14million some say Hibbert deserves.

I think they're limited by the fact that he's only played 4 years, so I think the max he can make is 14 or 14.5 million. I might be wrong.

That's kind of what I thought. A max contract for a young player is half of a max for someone such as Kobe, or far less then Deron Williams can earn but fans throw around the term max as if they're all the same.

Not that I necessarily think Roy is worth $14mil, but its definetely an option the team needs to consider. If that's only 2mil more than Noah makes I'd rather go in that direction then pay Nic over $8 mil per year.

Yeah he has two strikes against him. 1) He's a center; 2) His name is Roy

Dont forget that he has knees. That always seems to sneak up on our players. :)

I think Javale McGee is a more likely and more realistic option at center. He might not be as good as Hibbert, but you won't have to throw the max at him. Denver is a bit strapped on their cap situation.
