you asked if mentally ill people were capable of military service...not American military service...lot of whack jobs join the military...ptsd is a product of military service and is a mental illness
Ha! The good Justice was exactly that, a Good Justice. Not a tactician , nor even a General. Useful in this case depends, of the objective. Washington did not overwhelmingly defeat the British. He and his army out lasted them, and deigned them total control of the country, even though poorly armed. The Gun owning population of America will always pose the same impediment to tyranny in this country today as long as we have that right in the Constitution. The god give right to protect oneself with the force of arms, was extended to include the right to protect the people from tyranny by the force of arms if necessary as specified in the Declaration of Independence. The right of the people to change the government if necessary. There is no need to give up this right. It would indeed, be very stupid . Nothing has change here in the past 231 years. We do need to protect the schools for the evil doers, those incapable of following law or even civility, but not give up our rights in the process.
except for actual weapons...they've changed a hell of a lot since then....magazine capabilities...range....a lot has changed indeed.
The majority of United States citizens would agree they don't wan't guns in the hands of mentally ill people. What if, it is, god forbid, someone from your family next. I know I dont want a crazy person marching into my sons school with guns ablazing
Haha. The biologist in me is extremely envious of your sea faring lifestyle. Witnessing nature is such a fantastic and life affirming thing.
I don't want any person marching into a school with guns ablazing! So need we need to stop this and we need to do it damn soon.
242 years ago when this country was born, there weren't mentally ill people walking into schools with machine guns taking kids out. If there were I'm sure the founding fathers would have written the 2nd ammendment a little bit different.
You think posting security guards and metal detectors is going to do the job. Its a start, but if someone wants to walk into a school bad enough and kill, they'll have no problem blowing the guards away and walking through the detector to fufil their savage intentions. Mentally ill people should not have guns.
I can tell you, I saw more sea otters than I had ever seen before in this last trip down the coast. Far more whales too. Humpbacks feeding! Can't recall that here before. Most of the whale I had seen before on the west coast were Gray whales migrating. You could think about the return to the Columbia River, probably in April.
I doubt it. I would only make it more clear, hopefully so you might see why we have it. But perhaps that should be done by the teachers rather than the text.
Is it your contention that mental health examinations should be required for gun ownership? Both prior to and at regular intervals during? How would such a requirement prevent those intent on circumventing the law (similar to how felons acquire guns now despite legal prohibition)? Or is this proposed not as a cure, but simply as a step toward improvement?
Actually we should not have mentally ill people. Do you have a cure for this. What is mentally ill, low IQ? What? Some get treatment, some do not, some get corrected, some do not. Should a low IQ lady be deigned the right to protect herself? Perhaps we need to protect the schools from evil doers. I would like that.
There are thousands of causes of mental illness....nothing to do with IQ....dementia is one...paranoia...on and on...post traumatic stress disorder...hormonal imbalance....on and on.....it can also happen quickly without much warning....depression is another one...childhood abuse can cause the victim to grow up with violent rage...etc..
