I've thought about that in the past. Here's what I think should be allowed: State or local governments should pay for abortions in the specific cases of rape or incest, BUT... -A police report MUST be filed through whichever investigating agency (local police/state police/sheriff/etc), and documented by the clinic -The state has to follow through with ensuring the woman is safe from further harm; either by removing her from the home, or arresting (circumstances depending) the offender Get a police report filed and a documented investigation performed thoroughly (with a medical report IF possible), and I've no problem with tax dollars going to pay for it.
No, you can pay for their child if you prefer. What you can't do is control other people, reality doesn't work that way. If I was you, I'd want to minimize, rather than maximize, the tax dollars I spent on people who can't exercise self-discipline. But I can't control other people either, so if you want to defund birth control and pay for more children instead, all I can do is observe that that's a pretty self-defeating choice. barfo
You mean, like voting for Trump because you don't like somebody with unsafe emails who has connections to Goldman Sachs?
Meanwhile, Trump tweeted from his personal account that 122 Guantanamo prisoners released by President Obama "returned to the battlefield", adding "just another terrible decision!" Actually, 113 of those were released during the Bush Administration and only 8 during the Obama Administration. But Trump is never wrong, never makes mistakes, never takes responsibility. He did what he always does when proven wrong. He doubled down. He later repeated the tweet, word for word, this time on the official President of the United States twitter account. I can expect Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity et al will all be screaming about the 122 dangerous terrorists President Obama released. And by tomorrow 85% of Republicans will swear it is true.
There's like a Protest everyday, just saw one at lunch. Who the fuck knows what it was for, the message gets diluted the more and more they do. haha
For all we know, that could be a janitor working at the EPA. I hardly take anonymous statements on Twitter seriously. No offense. "We are still doing our work". So some press releases and meetings were frozen. The EPA isn't going anywhere. And by the way, they've always been disorganized. They're one of the few government agencies that is too overburdened with constant government regulation and interference, with too few employees. If you ask me, they should become an independent, non-partisan organization that is not tied to the government.
[ Ummm...........WTF do you think these things came from???????? As a result of regulations. Regulations that corporations spent a lot of time and money fighting. NONE of these things would have happened without regulations. Companies do not do....and never have done....these things voluntarily. I'm stunned you would even present this argument. And calling "bullshit" on companies deliberately dumping into river and streams??????? Holy shit Jade, I spent 35 years in the water pollution control profession and your statement is one of the most ignorant things I've heard in a long time (and that includes this past election cycle and it's results). And I am honestly NOT trying to make this personal. Companies willfully and without shame dump ALL THE F*****G TIME because it's cheaper than upgrading processes and equipment. It's all about profit and screw the consumer on every level they possibly can. One of the most well known "artisanal" (for lack of a better term) potato chip makers in the PNW has been one of the most egregious polluters out there. Yet they constantly tout themselves as one of the most environmentally conscious companies going. The ONLY (ONLY!!!) reason they have been forced to cease and desist are those pesky regulations you are so happy to see disappear. And this is just one specific example out of dozens I can cite for one medium sized community. I love your passion but your naïveté is absolutely breathtaking. The only way we are going to retard environmental degradation is through regulations, the more the better. Because mankind in general doesn't have the discipline or altruism to regulate themselves voluntarily. If/when you ever have kids or grandkids I suspect your views will do a complete 180. Or at least I hope so.......
Or advancements in technology? That would seem to be a pretty big deciding factor. No, I DIDN'T say that. I'm well aware that many corporations pollute. In fact, even truck drivers do it when nobody's looking. They dump their chemicals, waste, and oil wherever it's convenient. And that infuriates me. What I simply meant was that rolling back these regulations isn't suddenly going to make everyone start polluting more than they already are. The sky isn't going to fall, and the grass isn't going to stop growing. So I'm curious about something.... 35 years in the business.....that means you've seen a LOT of politics on both sides, a lot of bullshit, a lot of advancement, a lot of failure, and a lot of progress. And suddenly.....TRUMP is the one that has you terrified about this? Why? How is he any more dangerous environmentally than Bush, Nixon, Bush Sr, Reagan, or any other Republican President ever was? That's what I don't understand. That's why I scoff when people tell me "OMG, he's gonna kill us ALLL!" As opposed to the other 240 years this country has existed, suddenly TRUMP is the guy who's going to do us in? That's why I don't take many arguments against him seriously. I actually think Bush Jr. did more damage for this country than Trump could ever do. Bro, I don't take anything from anyone on here personally, unless it's a direct attack on my person or my character. Then it's crossing the line. If you disagree with my views, that's fine, feel free to call them "bullshit" all you want. Lord knows I do it with others. But I don't take anything on here personally, despite how passionate I get. I simply just get baffled at the sheer amount of insanity over this guy. And I'm not even one of his die-hard supporters! There are plenty of things that I disagree with him about, and I've discussed them at length before: the wall and his twitter use, to name just a couple. Thank you. I sincerely appreciate that. Even if we disagree on issues, as long as we respect one-another on here, you guys are all good in my book. I submit that I may very well be naive about much of these issues; especially compared to someone like you, who did this for 35 years. But when it comes to Trump overall, I'm perfectly capable of differentiating outright bullshit and hand-wringing emotions, to that which is a legitimate concern. "Taking away women's rights"? Nope. He's just defunding Planned Parenthood. "Taking away gay rights"? Nope, and there's no need to argue there. It's simply not true. At all. And there's numerous other things which people just make blanket statements about and use media-based assumptions to use as an argument, without actually doing their research and attempting to get their news from unbiased sources. I'm simply trying to help people take a breath and actually think about Trump, rather than just getting emotional and using assumptions for arguments. And again: I'm not even a devout follower of his. I just voted for the guy. But I'm also willing to give him time and to actually look objectively at how he runs his administration over the next 3 years or so before I come to any concrete decision about him. Some people on here wrote him off before he was even sworn in! Give me a break! I liked what he said at his SOTU address, and I gather many other people on here did as well. That should be encouraging to all of us. It's certainly encouraging to me to see how well he performed. Now, I personally am going to give him a year to see how his administration shapes up, and how he starts with the infrastructure and economy of our country. I'll also be looking at how he builds relationships with other countries, and how he deals with things like Russia's hacking. THEN I'll start to formulate my opinions about him. One year. If all the rest of you want to continue this hysteria, then I guess that's on you. But I really don't think it's warranted, and I would encourage you to take a breath and give him a year.
Because, for all their faults, those people actually knew about, and cared about, something other than themselves. Trump doesn't. They made plenty of bad decisions, but they actually cared at least a little bit what the results were. Trump doesn't give a shit, so long as he's the center of attention. We don't have much choice, do we? Doesn't mean we can't form opinions before then, though. barfo
Did you ever consider that regulations fuel job creation?? And just not in the public sector. As more regulations arise and/or become more stringent, new and better equipment, processes and technology are needed to meet those regulations. The creation of the EPA has been a major boon for the manufacturing and scientific industries. This leads to more and better jobs. Trump's war on regulations will help cripple those industries. The EPA is also one of the most underfunded federal agencies we have. Because of that, enforcement is almost a joke. Trump's actions will make a bad situation even worse. So in these respects, hell f*****g yes, Trump literally terrifies me.
