Yi's big breakthrough has him playing at a "monstrous" 15.1 PER so far this year. That is the PER of an average starter in the NBA. I suspect that on a team with 3 wins to their name so far this year this could be considered "all-star" like, but I think you are getting way out of proportions here.

The only way a 15.1 PER gets into the all-star game is if the entire country of China votes for him.

    Oh, wait...

That's weird, you left out the 2 rebounds from the seven footer. What a stud.

    Plus a 22 point loss.

    Make him an all-star NOW.

I never said he'd make the All Star team this season. I said it'd happen by three years from now.

Should I put it in green when I'm paraphrasing KS?

Aren't you always throwing around +/- like it's some sort of individual stat? So, what's was Yi's +/- tonight?

Well, to be fair, his -28 tonight wasn't helped by missing 3 tipins and layups. But it's good to see he got there for the 5 o-boards and shot 41%!

Among his misses tonight? 0-foot tipin, 0-foot tipin, 0-foot tipin, 4-foot jumper, 5-foot jumper, 7-ft jumper, 8-foot jumper. But ATL probably game-planned to harass him into 19 points on 17 shots. So you can't blame him. And he was really just heating up in the 3rd and 4th...I'm sure if he'd have played more he would've had higher numbers. It's just that his team was down 30...what're you gonna do?

He basically got 36 minutes of garbage time tonight (NJN got down 8-1 in the first 2 minutes of the game and it was never close after that - they were down 17 after the first period). A lot of his minutes were against Atlanta's bench.

Yi is the Chinese Tony Campbell - padding his individual stats on a HORRID team.

I love disagreeing with KS too but....honestly, Yi isn't that bad. Not this year at least.

Good stats+Bad record doesn't necessarily mean shitty player.

It also doesn't mean future all-star either - especially for a 25-year old player in his 3rd season.

And, that's the point of contention.

See also, the title of this thread: "Told you all Yi was going to be a star." There's a big difference between being a "star" and being a slightly above average player on one of the worst teams in NBA history.

He's slightly above average now. He'll hit his stride in a couple years and the country of China will put him over the top. Barring injury, it seems obvious to me that he'll be an All Star.

He'll be a poor man's Dirk. Look at Dirk's early numbers: 8.2/3.5 in his rookie year, 17.5/6.5 in his second year, and then he exploded, and even won MVP!

Yi currently averages 16.2/6.8 and his numbers are trending upward.

Yi probably won't win MVP but I definitely think he'll play in a couple All Star games.

By the time Dirk was in his 3rd NBA season, he was averaging 21.8 PPG, 9.2 RPG and had a PER of 22.8 for a 53-win team.

Yi is currently in his third NBA season averaging 16.2 PPG, 6.8 RPG with a PER of 16.1 on a team that's on pace to win to win 7 games this season - the lowest in NBA history.

Dirk, in his third NBA season at 22 was the star and best player on a very good team. Yi, in his third season in the NBA at age 25 is a slightly above average player on potentially the worst team in the 65-year history of the NBA.

Can you not comprehend the difference? Saying Yi is a poor man's Dirk is like saying Ricky Davis is a poor man's LeBron James. You may recall that Ricky, like Yi, put up some decent numbers on some very bad tams (he averaged 20.6 PPG at the age of 23 for a 17-win Cleveland team). The only difference is Ricky didn't have 1.6 billion countrymen stuffing his all-star game ballot box.

Yi is a year behind Dirk, no doubt. Like I said, he's a poor man's Dirk. Yes, the Nets suck, but does that mean Devin Harris and Brook Lopez suck? Would you want either player on the Blazers?

And in regards to your last statement, you clearly understand what I'm saying: that Yi, barring injury, will probably make the All Star team by three years from now.

So that means every player on the Nets is worthless individually?
