This pick is a fucking thousand times better than our 16 pick. Kid was a 2 sport star and only gave up basketball 2 years ago which means has only been playing just baseball for 2 years. Tremendous defensive shortstop. Batted .298 last year and this year .348 so not quite sure what the problem is with that. Hit only 4 hrs so power hopefully will come as he grows and continues playing baseball. .348 ave with .418 obp is fine with me. His coach at sd state thought he was hands down the best shortstop in the draft which I don't agree with but this looks to me like someone who will be down the line potentially a very good player for us. Very happy with this pick as much as I hated the 16th pick.

Did you say you have a feeling?
Fine with me, nothing wrong with trying to get better in the pitching department.

Are the Yankees allergic to young LH SP?

"Allergic"? They'll probably trade for the LHPs.

Callis says holder may be the best defensive player in entire draft. 7th shortstop taken. I hope he turns out as good as the 7th or 8th qb taken in the first round of the 1983 nfl draft.

Just off the top of my head, in the past couple/few years....I can't seem to recall a single LHSP who came through the Yankees' system good enough to make at least a few starts with the Yankees.

Indiana state. Only thing I could find on him he had tj 2 yrs ago. He is 23 already and will need some time to develop. Should be up by the time he's 30. ROTFLMAO. Projected for bottom of rotation. Too depressed to go on and will now go to sleep. Cashman MUST GO. Goodnight all

Give Him a bit more credit than your under overs. Have any of you watched any UCLA games this year, I bet not........!!!

Kapri IS/WAS: UCLA's Ace this year, has pinpoint accuracy, a good slider, good enough curve to use as an out pitch; off speed deception, enough to keep Batter's off guard.

This kid may just be this Draft's and Yanx, "Instant Karma" -fast track, to the big leagues, from a pool of Pac-12 Talent to the Majors in 1 year?

    2015***
Went 10-4 with a 2.03 ERA in 17 apperances (16 starts) for UCLA...finishes fifth all-time at UCLA in career ERA (2.06)...finishes sixth all-time at UCLA in career strikeouts (275)...earned All-Pac-12 first team honors...named a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball...led the Pac-12 in strikeouts (114) and wins (10) over 106.2 innings...lasted at least six innings in 12 of 15 starts, including lasting seven or more innings in seven starts...

I really doubt Kapri is as bad as anyone wants to believe, or BA & MLB, have no creedence........!

    Baseball America*** (19th ranked prospect):

Kaprielian knows how to finish hitters off when he’s ahead in the count, with a plus curveball as his best pitch. He can land it, vary the shape of it and bury it as a chase pitch, and his feel for the curve is his strongest attribute. He has dabbled with a slider as well but has focused on the fastball, curveball and solid-average changeup for most of the spring … In several April and May starts, his velocity improved, bumping 95 and holding 92-93 deeper into games.

    MLB.com *** (22nd ranked prospect):

He didn’t have the best stuff in a U.S. collegiate national team rotation that included Louisville’s Kyle Funkhouser and Vanderbilt’s Carson Fulmer last summer, but Kaprielian did have the best “pitchability” and is the safest bet to become a mid-rotation starter in the big leagues. He works with an 89-92 mph fastball as a starter, and he’s effective at that velocity because he can locate it … Kaprielian’s best pitch is his changeup, and he also has a solid slider and a curveball to give batters a different look. With his command and strong frame, he’s built to be a starter.

paragraphs noted in Italics, courtesy of: UCLA NCAA BB, as well as Baseball America, MLB, and Bleacher reports.......as well courtesy of one, who has seen half of UCLA's Team play this year, last, and keep going another 45 yrs or more....til ye' get to Jackie Robinson........not saying Kapri can't fail, damn near 98% of Amateur drafts, just don't materialize........so pick your poison...!!!

No, no, no, seriously are you confusing the kid a pick or 2 or 3 ahead of or behind Holder???? Who happened to play both QB, and was a Pitcher, if I'm not mistaken.....

Holder discontinued playing 2 sports, Basketball 1st, then Baseball. He quit the former to concentrate on improving his game of baseball.

and- your right on the fact he's a defensive gem, but needs more polishing of his bat with hitting for a higher average, of which he should be more than capable....

This kid could be a flop or our future SS, either way, as I said earlier the pctg of kids who make a living long enough to say they had a real career, are miniscule, and I wouldn't over look several other points of view.....not at this juncture......Overall, I think the Yanx had a better draft this year, than I've seen in several years....

Mattingly, No confusion. Holder was a 2 sports star basketball and baseball. He was a point guard averaging 20 per game and stopped to concentrate on baseball. The article you posted was the one I was looking at yesterday which gives his 2014 numbers of .298. In 2015 he batted .348 with obp of .418 so seems to be figuring out his offense which seems to be the concern of the scouts. His defense is not an issue. Think this kid works out for us at short down the line. I think your right with ucla kid we took first. After my post I found another that said instead of the 89 to 91 I was reading his velocity had increased this year to the 92 to 94 with an occasional 95. If thats true with the other 3 pitches that he has good control over I am happy with this pick although I was looking at the big lefty hitter that the cards took in all honesty.

Thanks for the feedback mrmel, I hope like hell freezing over, Kapri can spin his magic in MLB like he did in the Pac-12, but honestly, after seeing so many SP Aces over so many drafts, only to not work out on the MLB level, wouldn't surprise me......

    and-

I wish like hell the Yanx would of obtained MO' Jr. before the Nats got him. Just what the Nats need, another Ace. I recall last years scouting reports on Mo' Jr. weren't that goood, yet He seems to of done a 180 at Iona.........

cheers mrmel...... to a draft, I hope works out, esp for Kyle Holder, this kid could be our SS of the future, and I like his game better than Bregman's of LSU.....
