Talk about bittersweet.... winning the lottery in pretty crappy draft where all the best prospects don't suit our needs.... No complaints though, this is the first time ever we ever won the lotto so it's a great moment in Raps history. I'm really hoping Colangelo trades the pick for something good (not sure what yet)... but if not, I'd be happy if he keeps it and drafts Aldridge.
Man, this is such a wicked feeling. We're in uncharted territory now, because the Raptors have never been in the position to dictate the outcome of the rest of the draft. Initially, I'm favouring a 3-4-5 combination of Villanueva, Bosh, and Aldridge. But, I haven't seen the scouting, workouts, or watched enough of his game to back it up. It'd be great if someone from Mock Draft (shape, VC, etc.) could come in here and give an opinion. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting deception:</div><div class="quote_post">i say trade it along with with jose caledron for their first round pick, luke ridnour and johan petro</div> Seattle may want a little bit more, but I really like this idea. Seems feasible too. Also, is this the first time the Raps have ever moved up in the lottery?
HEY GUYS...HAVEN'T BEEN HERE IN A WHILE AND I JUST HEARD THE NEWS AND I'M SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!! I don't care who the Raps take, but I do like Adam Morrison and Tyrus Thomas because I feel that they have the best chances of being superstars in the NBA. I wouldn't mind if the Raps take Aldridge as well, but THIS IS AMAZING. This pick alone can change the whole perspective of this team, also its future success. I have full trust in Bryan Colangelo and I think he will do what's right, whether he chooses to trade for a pick down...but I hope they use this pick and well...YEAH GO RAPS!!!
2005- Andrew Bogut 2004- Dwight Howard 2003- Lebron James 2002- Yao Ming 2001- Kwame Brown 2000- Kenyon Martin 1999- Elton Brand 1998- Michael Olokowandi 1997- Tim Duncan 1996- Allen Iverson 1995- Joe Smith 1994- Glenn Robinson 1993- Chris Webber 1992- Shaquille O'Neal 1991- Larry Johnson 1990- Derrick Coleman Aside from Kwame, Kandi, and Joe Smith, all of these picks have turned out to be solid, if not spectacular, players. When you think about it, this is the first time the Raps have been in a situation where we don't have to worry about picking a bust, as much as picking a player that isn't the best. Even thought this draft isn't the greatest (no Duncan's or Shaq's or Lebron's), its still looks better than 2000 and 1994, and could equal 2001 or 1995 in terms of depth.
Tyrus Thomas LaMarcus Aldridge Adam Morrison Andrea Bargnani Rudy Gay Randy Foye Brandon Roy Marcus Williams Rodney Carney I don't think you can go wrong with any of these guys.
Congrats to the Raptors. My initial thought is they should take Aldridge, or look to trade the pick and get some immediate help.
Hmmm 10 Years later they win the Lotto again.. 10 year intervals?? well in 96 they won it but it wasn't allowed for Raps to have #1 overall pick.
Colangelo is not necesarrily going to use the draft pick he still may do some trading, and for the people wanting to take morrison what will he contribute? The raptors have plenty of scoring 4th in the league, they need defence morrison doesn't have any.
Congrats Raptors ! I think that they should trade the pick and maybe add in one player and get a good player. Or if they will draft, I would draft Aldrige. Congratz Toronto, again !
Some rumours have the trailblazers wanting another top 5 pick so they can draft both Aldrige and Roy. Maybe we can trade our #1 pick for the Blazer's #1 next year and a guy like Travis Outlaw or Sebastien Telfair. We probably would have to sweeten the pot a little more though.
C-Lamarcus Aldridge PF-CB4 SF-CV31 SG-Mopete PG-???? Wow, very good frontcourt. But also VERY young, it would be ok to draft lamarcus if we get some big this summer that has been in the league for a while.

Personally, Outlaw/Telfair and their 5th pick for our first pick is not worth it. If we were to trade down for our another pick, I wouldn't mind trading down to atlanta, where we could draft Roy and get someone like Josh Smith, but that's highly doubtful.
I think you guys should trade down so that maybe you can get Morison and a true center. That would be amazing. If you stay I think you have to take Aldridge. He can play center and Thomas is a bit too small for that.
Andrea Bargnani, Chris Bosh, Charlie V, Mo Pete, and some PG who can run a fast break, that would be an exceptional lineup. Some may argue that we need a true center, but all of these players can run, and we all know that CB4, CV3, and Mo Pete are good open court finishers. Bargnani, although i havent followed him, from what I read about him, much like Chris and Charlie, Andrea is also a quick big man who excells in an uptempo game and can shoot and handle the ball. He is also a good shotblocker. I dont think we have to follow the basic, PG, SG, SF, PF, C layout, because we are blessed to have these players available, so its more like a PG, SG, F, F, F. The high tempo game would also benefiet Mo Pete. Some will argue, what happens when the fast break game isnt working (which I doubt will fail too often) where do we go for a center? The answer is, Pop Sow is a pretty good defensive player, young, seems coachable, looks like its easy for him to put on size (which he has enough of as it is). Now im not saying Pop Sow is some sort of saviour of the bench at center, but the main concerns of having Chris, Charlie and Andrea out there, is who is gonna guard the big man? I think with those players heights, and all three of them out there, it will be pretty hard to score in the paint, and what center are we afraid of really? Are we gonna get a center just to guard Shaq or Yao? Or do we wanna make other teams look for answers on how to guard us?
More on the backup center, because I dont wanna look like i think Pop is THE answer. Why not use Mike James as a barganing chip for a big, or sign one with our cap room. And whats up with our european big man (forgot his name)?
There are any chances that the Raptors are going for a PF in this draft? i don't think there is a chance, you should draft Morrison or Gay.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Proz4k:</div><div class="quote_post">There are any chances that the Raptors are going for a PF in this draft? i don't think there is a chance, you should draft Morrison or Gay.</div> Now why would we do that? And if you read my post, this is why they should pick a power forward.
Bosh and CV already covered the forwards, i dont see why we need another one. What we need is a good centre...Aldridge sounds nice.
