<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (Ticker) -- Often compared to Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant entered the rarefied realm of Wilt Chamberlain. Bryant scored a mind-boggling 81 points - the second-highest total in NBA history - as the Los Angeles Lakers posted a 122-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors. It was the NBA's greatest individual offensive performance aside from Chamberlain's landmark 100-point game against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962. That figure once was considered unapproachable, but Bryant is raising the possibility.</div> http://www.nba.com/games/20060122/TORLAL/recap.html
Ban me if you must, but HOLY CRAP!!! 81 points!!! In 41 minutes, shooting 28-46 from the field, and 18-20 from the line! FRIGGIN INCREDIBLE!

Amazing performance by Kobe Bryant, I just hope its clear to everyone now that Kobe is the best nba player no question about it!! I love seeing people show Kobe respect now....took some people awhile but I think most are now seeing the light!!!!

haha trench, been there done that. My girl keeps telling me that I love Kobe more than her, well, umm, no comment. haha, just playing. But seriously, it's pretty sad, I'm like infatuated with the guy in a non-gay kind of way. I'm always reading articles or watching videos of him, backing him up in arguments, it goes on. I agree with clutch, it's so nice to see people starting to like Kobe, or if not even that, just starting to give him the respect he deserves. I really think people are starting to see the REAL Kobe, who is not such an arrogant asshole, but a genuinely nice guy (who fkd up bad by telling on Shaq, but come on, everyone makes mistakes.)
wow unfortunately I didn't get to see the game, but 81 points is just amazing.....people can criticize about dude being a ball hog (and I'm one of those critics), but you can't deny his greatness....wow, I'm still in disbelief.

Tracy McGrady's comments on Kobe's big night: <div class="quote_poster">Quoting "Houston Chronicle":</div><div class="quote_post"> With the NBA buzzing about Kobe Bryant's 81 points on Sunday, Rockets forward Tracy McGrady was at first speechless and then could not say enough about what Bryant did. "I'm still in awe of what that kid did," said McGrady, whose 62 points against the Wizards in 2004 had been tied with Bryant's 62 against the Mavericks for the most in a game by a current NBA player. "It was just a hell of a performance for him to shoot the ball only 46 times to score 81 points. But not just to be able to shoot it 46 times, but to shoot it 46 times and hit well over 50 percent. There are nights I'm in the 30s of shots taken and I've been fatigued. To take 46 and 20 free throws and end up with 81 points, I didn't believe it. "We were on the bus and Luther ( Head) yelled out, 'Kobe's got 70-something and there's four minutes left.' I said, 'Luther, stop lying.' I hurried up and got my key and went to my room and called one of my boys to put on the game and Kobe was at the free throw line with 79 points. I said, 'Are you serious?' I don't think I could score that many in a video game." McGrady said he was amazed at Bryant's stamina and the Raptors' lack of adjustments. "I talked to Mike ( James) after the game," McGrady said. "He said they didn't double team him ? not one time. You would think after he hit 40, send two or three guys at him. When he hit 50? When he got 70? What are you doing: playing him one-on-one?"</div>
Thanks for the post Durvasa, I was surprised on the comment about the Raptors not double teaming Kobe at all. I know the Raptors used a lot of zone defense in the game, but they were definitely double teaming Kobe in the 2nd half. In fact one of Kobe's highlight plays was dribbling behind his back and splitting a double team for a layup.

But yeah, the coach claims he tried doubling him on and off the ball so its weird that James denies any double teaming. Shoot I wouldn't even need a coach to tell me to do that once the guy was in the 50s. But the evidence speaks for itself. I downloaded the game last night and watched most of it this morning. He was double teamed in the second half, but either shot before the double team could get there or split the double-team.
That's why I love Tmac so much, GAME RECOGNIZE GAME. I've said it before and I'll say it again....... KOBE-AI-TMAC = the real triange offense.
