We're not going to clear the mess until 2020 anyway, so why not add to the mess to gain assets that will be valuable past 2020? Lineup another bad contract with ET's and Meyers' and reap the reward when it's off the books. We won't lose anymore flexibility, since we don't have any to begin with. That's not he same as "We have a ton of flexibility, and we have to use it now", which was the theme of 2016. I think we could add future 2nds, including one in 2021, which looks like a super draft where a 2nd round pick would be the equivalent of a late 1st. If we had to take on Miles Plumlee or someone similar this summer to land Gary Trent Jr, I would've done it. I know it's up to Paul but it's a sound, logical strategy that would only be unpursuable based on Paul's pocketbook.
You literally mentioned two guys we got YEARS ago under the previous CBA. The CBA and the landscape has changed. You didn't "answer" the question yesterday. So, how about answering it in present context today. BNM
I’m disappointed that he couldnt get ANY thing with it. There are a lot of players that make Minimum-13 Mil.
Here's a Neil quote: So Paul's agressive, and wants to improve and use the TPE's. That says that money shouldn't be any obstacle, which is reaffirmed by Neil saying they view the TPE's as simple "room". States that the TPEs are "really good" and an "advantage" while outlining how they could use them to make the team better. If that's not "implying they'll be used" to you, then I don't know what to tell you. No where did he say they may or may not be used, and he didn't say things in the manner of "We'll be able to put our TPEs into play and see what we can get for them". He never put emphasis on the possibility of them not being used, and put it all on how valuable and meaningful the TPEs are. So the fact that they end up meaningless and worthless while we have dead money on the books as a result of matching Crabbe is a huge failure on Olshey's part, and he didn't help with his comments. He implied it'd be used.
So either that's a lie and Paul stopped Neil from making moves with the TPE that would've added to our asset group, or Neil couldn't figure out one single trade that could've made us better now or in the future.
Paul Allen: “Get Better!” Dame /Napier CJ / Pat Harkless / ET Aminu / Collins Nurk / Davis _________________ Dame / Baldwin CJ / Curry Harkless / ET Aminu / Collins Nurk / Meyers Is that really getting better? Yeah, we picked up some young bucks who look promising but realistically aren’t going to be role players for at least another season or two.
If B is true, then Neil could help the backlash by not saying stuff like "We have very good, valuable advantages in our TPEs with a really aggressive owner that's not afraid to pay out money.".
The worse part? From matching Crabbe all we got was Nicholson stretched on our cap for multiple years and two sweeps!
I don't want to hear the "We don't have a roster spot" excuse... We have Nik Stauskas on a minimum contract, who can be cut with a very small amount of dead money counting against our cap this year. Better yet, we should've never signed him. You can't tell me the Magic aren't willing to part with Johnathan Simmons for a 2nd round pick and a $6M TPE. Even if they aren't, there's many similar deals out there that makes it hard to believe that there wouldn't be one single deal that would work out for both teams.
I feel like Stauskas is so redundant... what separates him from Layman at this point? Why have both? Another thing that pisses me off is we didn’t address the glaring frontcourt hole that is the absense of Ed Davis... we could’ve used that TPE on Tyson Chandler who is expiring after the season anyway..
He has a level of annoyance with the fanbase because of their annoyance with him, but he's partly to blame, for stuff like that. You can't tout an asset as "valuable" and an "advantage" when it's only such if it's used, then not use it after giving every hint you were going to use it, and not expect to receive backlash.
