He is a good player and I do like him. But does he move the needle? Grant and RoCo were considered good defenders before they joined, but did they improve us defensively? It's a sideways move so long as we persist with 2 x small guards in the backcourt, so I don't see the point until we address that elephant in the room.
There is one thing about Vandebilt no one talks about. Do we really want Cronin to negotiate a trade with Danny Ainge?
Very much agree. But that likely won't be addressed anytime soon. It won't go as long as Dame/CJ, just due to Dame's age, but it is still a very similar issues as to what they have dealt with for most of a decade. Sadly, that is very likely all we have to look forward to......sideways moves.
This seems like the quietest trade deadline league-wide. Other than kyrie, hachimura, and vonleh. . What other trades happened?
Is that the elephant in the room? Or is it that Chauncy could quickly go bigger in the backcourt if he wanted? A 3 guard rotation with Dame, Ant, and Hart needs to be given a chance. I watched last night and what I saw were there Bucks' forwards and centers scoring at will in the paint over our forwards and centers. So I think we address that first.
I think all the GM's read this message board last year about how bad of an idea it is to make a trade before the last minute and are waiting until Thursday so they don't get ripped on twitter.
I don't expect the Blazers to make any trade and I'm fine with that. Here's how the rest of the season goes: 1. No trades. 2. Dame gets injured. 3. Blazers end the season on a 0-10 run 4. Miss play-in (obvs) 5. Chauncey fired. 6. Win lottery 7. Draft Wemby!
I know for a fact teams like Sac’s fanbase would trade with us in a heartbeat to have made the playoffs and “underperform”.
Just remember usually when you hear about trades, they’re already dead. So if you want trades, quiet is usually better.
They have no athletic size that they would part with which is our most pressing need, they also have no first round picks (not that I think a responsible GM would be handing those out for Hart but we could have hoped). So we get a role player and a guy that we can cut if the right person is available on the buyout market along with second rounders to sweeten the Vanderbilt trade. Also if we trade for Vanderbilt only sending out SRPs and Winslow, this trade will give us the wiggle room to sign a vet min for the rest of the season without going into the luxury tax. Not a haul but trying to be realistic.
I'd hate to trade Hart, but if we do - I hope it's to a team that is a legitimate contender. Cavs qualify here... Hart + GBIII <-> Osman + Okoro + 2-2nd round picks (GSW for '23 & '24) This keeps both Cavs & Portland below the tax line.
I guess I get why the Cavs would do that, but why would Portland? It doesn't make us better either now or in the future (unless we get lucky with a couple of likely low second-rounders) and I bet it would piss Dame off. If you COMBINED Okoro and Osman you might have a player, but individually they're seriously flawed.
