Though teammates did a mock countdown as the clock struck 3 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday Alex Rios was on alert until the non-waiver trade deadline passed.

Despite a boatload of rumors that suggested he’d be moved the White Sox outfielder wasn’t traded. It was actually a pretty quiet day on the Rios front as the Texas Rangers showed no interest and deals with the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees who reportedly emerged as suitors on Tuesday didn’t materialize.

Now that a lengthy six weeks of rumors has come to an end which Rios admits were a distraction at times he’s ready to move on.

“You have to wait until the end” Rios said. “The last couple of hours are the most active hours of the deadline. So I just had to wait it out. … Now there’s not going to be too much obviously trade talks and I think it’s going to be just time to play ball and just focus in on that.”

Rios who is hitting .272 with 12 homers and 49 RBIs this season still could be moved through waivers before Aug. 31. Or he could be traded this offseason which is a strong possibility because the White Sox main acquisition this month is Avisail Garcia whom they see as their future right fielder.
