Very much a bummer. He was had for so little and would have helped Portland greatly....especially for what they gave up. Spending two 2nd rounders on Crabbe not looking good right now when it could have net you Hawes.

We would have needed expiring contracts as well, which we don't have. So it would have taken not trading for Crabbe, to keep the 2nds, as well as not picking up options on Robinson and Leonard for next season, to trade their salary. Right now, maybe that looks ok, but would have looked foolish to be essentially giving up on them so soon.

Isn't Mo Williams essentially an expiring contract? Will Barton as well?

Wouldn't be enough to trade for Hawes, but Mo has a player option. Sure, he said he's going to use it, but that's a lot different than having a guy on an unguaranteed deal. Mo breaks his leg tomorrow, he's probably not opting out.

Mo is a player option, he gets to choose that it expires.

So not having any future picks to use and no expiring contracts to trade and 15 players on your roster with no flexibility is perhaps not the best place to have your team if you are a GM. Just a suggestion...

Agreed to an extent, but again, you go to the offseason....Mo and Wright likely don't sign here without the 2nd year, so option seems either non-expiring or not having them. Wright has been a big disappointment, but was still looked at by just about everyone here as a solid signing at the time. Lope has an extra year. Only other option of having an expiring player would be Robinson and Leonard's options not being picked up.

Yep. That's something a team's GM should think about.

So, most changes we will be able to make are the in-house kind. Begin with overhauling the weak ass D.

12 minutes left. This is about when that Gerald Wallace to POR deal came about a few years ago.

I might consider putting Mathews on the block.

If they go as is, it seems more likely that they will play closer to the recent level than return to the earlier level of play. So guess we should reset expectations to being happy to make the playoffs? What a downer. If they end up with the #5-8 seed with no HCA and lose in the 1st round, does that really incline LA to stay? That is still a long way from contending status.
