Long term roster talent for the franchise yes it makes sense to trade Dame. I assume the franchise and fans, maybe even Dame himself, are set on him remaining here. He can have a Kobe Bryant stealth tank twilight to his career where he jacks up a bunch of shots and provides entertainment; but the team rebuilds. I'd much rather watch Dame do that then this current trying to win but failing to crack .500 thing they are doing now.
I'd think the Blazers have to ship out draft picks to trade Nurk, or take back an even worse contract. I'd just hold on to him and look to trade him when his deal has less years. He's negative value right now, and the Blazers don't have any way to build a winner, so its best to just eat his contract at this time.
If so then trading him is fine. He's such a me against expectations guy he might want the challenge of trying to win with a bunch of young guys when the whole world thinks they are washed. He also might like going down as the #1 star of the Blazers for many decades to come. Also we have to see where his play is at; on his huge supermax contract he isn't a lock to have a positive impact relative to his salary for a team trying to contend. Now maybe on a Golden State or Brooklyn that is just blowing way past the luxury tax salary doesn't matter so he could. But that shrinks his trade market to 2-3 teams.
I think Dame might be untradable until the summer anyways from the extension? Also we need to see what the CBA changes are when finally agreed to. If they put in a hard cap it might remove those high spending teams, Golden State/Brooklyn's/etc, from being able to trade for Dame.
I think it's likely that nothing will change with this team until it is sold, so until that time I'm just going to sit back and chill.
I just want to point out that Dame said last night after the game that this team's lack of size makes it a lot harder for them to win. Chauncey conceded that it is problematic as well. It would be really weird to hear those guys talk about that issue in that way and not see it addressed before/at the trade deadline.
I think Dame has been quoted saying he wants to play with an extremely athletic big... that being said, I think Boban would be a significant upgrade to what we currently have in the way of post players we have coming off our bench. I would be pissed if that were the move we made but the team would be better depending on what we had to give up to get him. We really do need more size plain and simple but we also need size with athleticism and pieces that cohesively fit and if we're going to proceed with Chauncey we also need anyone we acquire to have the abilities necessary to execute his philosophies. Additional size is a glaring need but we have a lot of other needs that will hopefully be addressed simultaneously.
Probably true, but strangers things have happened in the NBA. We should know they usually happen to Portland...lol.
Should the Blazers be interested? https://www.blazersedge.com/platform/amp/2023/1/20/23564091/milwaukee-bucks-serge-ibaka-agree-to-find-trade Bucks, Serge Ibaka Agree to Find Trade Serge Ibaka’s days with the Milwaukee Bucks appear to be numbered.
Should the Blazers be interested in Gordon Hayward or Kelly Oubre Jr? Rumor is the Hornets are taking calls.
Hayward makes 30 million dollars a year. He's nowhere near worth the contracts it would take to trade for him.
KOJ has been scoring ok but I dont know what else he can do. GH can shoot but isnt he overpaid? Supposedly Jazz are listening to offers for all but Kessler and Lauri, of course.
Yeah but you have to deal with Ainge. He will listen and then demand too many draft picks. I would bet they want to keep Sexton and Vanderbilt as well as they fit with the rebuild timeline. Vanderbilt I would want, and maybe Olynyk if he came cheap.
We need size and a consolidation trade. We have too many mediocre players. This team needs to built around Dame, Ant, Nurk, Grant and Sharpe.
