What I'd like to know--if Aldridge were answering honestly, would he rather stay in Portland and be part of a 2-year rebuild, or be traded to another team...that also wouldn't be a contender...

IMO if we get NJ's pick (4-8) and are smart amd maybe a little luck in the draft and getting FA's or via trades, we could/should next year be a much better team then this year and better then any of the teams we've had the past 5-6 years. We are not that far away if we play our cards right with the FA money and draft picks we have. However, those assets HAVE T) be used very wisely by a skilled GM - do we have that is the big Q?

No team Aldridge will be traded to will be a contender, because only rebuilding teams have the pieces that the Blazers would want.

My point exactly. People say "he wouldn't want to be part of a rebuild", but what other option is there?

Barring getting a REALLY good player back, along the lines of DWill, I don't want to see the team trade LA. Trading your best player seldom turns out to be a good thing.

Seems to me, assuming JJ isn't a flash in the pan, that LA could start at C and JJ at PF. Then upgrade with the draft/FA's for PG/SG/backups. LA/JJ/Nic is a pretty solid front court.

We could get by with Wes at SG, but if Flynn doesn't pan out, the team needs to FINALLY find a PG.

I suggested trading Roy, Joel, Blake and TrOut for Rose/Huges back when Rose was a pup. In hindsight, we would be in a better place now if we had made that trade, even if it wasn't very popular when I posted it. (Trade checkers says it doesn't work now, because the players aren't with the same teams now. It did work at the time.)

Definately NOT meant as an 'I told ya so', because the reason I was up for it was that I (foolishly, as it turns out) thought Rudy would become close to Roy in skill. ugh.

Don't think Chicago would have done it anyways. Hometown kid, #1 overall pick...

there is no way chi does that trade after the long process of finally getting a franchise player.

There was a legitimate chance Rose would become the best player in basketball, or at least in the discussion. Roy was an outstanding player in his own right, but more in the "top 5 players in the league" discussion. The Bulls would have done that trade if Rose didn't want to play in Chicago and made his feelings known. Given that he didn't, there's zero chance the Bulls would trade him. There's not a package of players around today that the Bulls would trade Rose for, IMO.

You'd trade him for Aldridge. You'd be better and we'd be better.

I still can't believe we got Hickson for nothing. He is clearly playing for a contract, and doing a good job of it. Once he gets one, maybe he'll pass the ball to an open teammate once in a while. In the meantime, he is Z-Bo light. He would be a great backup for us next season. Trading Aldridge for anything less than an all star would be nuts. We need all the front court help we can get to play with Aldridge: Hickson, Draft Pick, Freeland, all of the above.

This dude is way more athletic than ZBO. I've never seen Zach do anything even remotely like what Hickson did TWICE against the Clips. I think Randolph is probably one of the most naturally talented post players I've ever seen, unfortunately he's so lazy and immature that he never fully realized his potential. Sound like anyone else we had on our team?

Hickson should start next season with Aldridge and we can pick a center prospect with our first rounder. When that player develops to take over the starting rotation, hickson can be the first big man off the bench (after 4 years). Maybe even freeland is that prospect center.

I don't understand all the talk about Freeland... didn't he say he doesn't want to come over? I was under the impression that he was happy where he was.

Now that we have hickson and possibly a high draft pick, freeland is kinda moot IMO. If he comes over than good. If he stays then its not really that big of a deal.

Hickson has had two good games... let's not get TOO excited just yet. I like the guy a lot, and I hope we keep him, but let's not anoint him the second coming of Jerome Kersey for at least two or three more games ;)

I don't think it's necessarily a given that we use our high draft pick on a big. If MKG drops a couple spots, or the FO really likes Bradley Beal, then it's very possible that we draft a couple perimeter players.

I agree. Unless the big is really special (and healthy) I would hope we start focusing on the skilled players. The guards and Sf's that can score. The rules favor the players who can penetrate and shoot. You are not allowed to touch those guys. The bigs seem to be easier to come by because what they are used for is limited these days.

I would be willing to give up both picks to move up to get a stud guard if the right one was available.

I remember a story coming out right when Hickson was traded that it was because he was going to want 10m a year.
I don't think we'll keep him. He is going to get a decent offer (4 years 25m) which will be out of our price range if we sign someone to a max
