<div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The way I see it, Dixon would fill the role that Fred Jones should have. He'd be an undersized two who could handle the ball and maybe play a few minutes as the main distributor. However, the dude's a very good scorer. Replace, Jones' athleticism with Dixon's shooting ability (something we need more of anyways) and they're pretty similar.</div> Jones is quite a bit bigger and more athletic the Dixon, and he actually plays D. See, Jones never really had a role on this team with a rotation of Parker, Garbo, MP3 and Graham all at the 2 and 3 spots. Just can't see him finding minutes in this rotation.
I agree with everyone who said this trade has "Colangelo" written all over it. Take a guy who is making a moderate contribution currently and use him within your system and hopefully he becomes better. Of course, I think most of us thought Fred Jones would fit that mould in the first place. Whatever happens you gotta root for Fred Jones, he's a good guy and pretty much everyone who's played with him says he's a great presence in the locker room. Does Dixon have the ability to play point at all? like in a 3rd guard capacity? maybe like more of a combo? I'm just a little skeptical because the "he can be a guard" label got thrown around a lot in the off season with Salmons, Jones and some other guys. So far the nearest thing we have to a guard outside of Calderon and Ford is Anthony Parker. I left Martin out of that list because he sucks. I love the point by XSV about our guards being small, having a third combo-pg with maybe some more size would be useful, even though Dixon isn't that guy. Given our situation I think we should dump our Rocco Ukic rights; where's he going to get playing time even if we decide to bring him over?
I've heard from Washington/Portland fans that his playmaking is laughable at best. He's only there to score and rarely looks to pass.
