Between a number of people I trust, it seems a number of teams are open to trades for various reasons that could involve their Draft pick and Portland moving off of veterans and cap space.

Atlanta - the want more defense, but don't think they would need to take Clingan at #1. They think they could trade down a spot or two and still get him will picking up additional assets.

Houston - doesn't have a lot of interest in yet another young player when they think they should be a playoff team and the draft pick won't be ready to contribute for a year or two.

Detroit - Owner is done being a lottery team (and with continually not getting good picks). They want vet help to help the already young roster grow into a playoff team.

Lakers - since they are retaining their #17 pick, they are looking for veteran help and have even expressed some interest in Brogdon.

OKC - There are players they like, but if they aren't there, they are open to adding a piece to help them progress in the Playoffs.

There is quite a bit that goes into some of these scenarios and of course nothing is set in stone, but they are apparently 'leanings' that some teams seem to have.

If what you say about Atlanta is true, then there's no chance of the Blazers getting Clingan whether or not they trade up. I'm sure that will make some people on this board very happy.

So... what position are Detroit and Houston most interested in?

Atlanta wants defense but would trade down and lose a chance at drafting the best defensive prospect in the draft? Your point doesn't make sense.

If Atlanta plans to compete in the immediate then trading the pick or taking Clingan might make the most sense.

    NO TRADES, hoard the rookies

    the other GM's
can all kiss off into the air.
    Behind Joe's back,
    he can see them stare.
    They'll hurt him bad,
    but he won't mind.
    They'll hurt him bad,
they do it all the time.

They don't think they would have to take him at #1. They think they could trade down a slot or two and still get the player they want and pick up an asset or two. Let's say it was for #3. They would have a pretty good idea that Clingan wasn't going at #2 and would work out a deal where the team moving up from #3 wouldn't take Clingan. Similar to what Boston/Philly did years ago when Boston ended up with Tatum.

I don't think Sarr at #1 is a guarantee. Sarr very well might fall to #2 or #3.

Ant or Grant would go a long way for them.

This might actually be a draft where we can move our veterans and cut salary while acquiring young, lottery-level talent in a devalued draft.

Kind of like trading Us Dollars for Loonies.

Add to this list, ORL would LOVE Ant, but that Ant already has his own thread. That said, fans down there are offering up all sorts of trade ideas to get him back home.

    you missed my point entirely.

Sarr is far and away the best defensive prospect in the draft. If Atlanta valued defense as you say, they would simply stick to 1 and draft Alex.

To me, the two trades that make A LOT of sense are:

    Grant/14 for 5

Simons to Orlando for WCJ/Black/2025 Denver pick.

Use 5 for Salaun and 7 for Knecht. Or if Clingan drops to 7, I'd consider trading back with Memphis for one of their picks and filler and then taking Williams at 9.

I think we hold onto Brogdon until after free agency because I think some teams are gonna strike out and they're gonna want someone like Brogdon.

Moving Grant at the draft makes sense because we need to get under the cap and Detroit can just outright absorb him.

seems like the last time we had a poll like this it was before the trade deadline. I think I voted for 2 trades and Portland only made 1. If I say 1 trade this time will it be 0?

Trade the vets to dump salary for future picks. Taking on additional first round picks in this draft would be wasting assets.

A trade that lands picks 1 or 2 in this draft might work. Other than that, get out of this first round.

Perhaps, but they seem to think that Clingan is closer to contributing and that they would have to wait a couple of years (which they don't want to waste waiting for) with Sarr. I didn't miss your point. I'm sharing what I've heard from people around the league or people I trust who dig a log and are very trustable.
