If CJ was on another team we'd be trying to figure out who we could package together to get him. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Or, more realistically, say we already have CJ because we have Dame, so why go out and get the same player?
What was the last team to win anything with two players under 6'4 in their backcourt? Probably Detroit with Joe Dumars/Isiah Thomas, and neither of our guys are Joe Dumars.
So what 2 guard would you bring in that doesn't have the same skills as Dame/CJ, yet makes us better? CJ is getting his first taste of consistent minutes and for the most part killing it. Plus he and our franchise player get along great. Chemistry is a big deal. It's not like I wouldn't trade him but it better be a damn good trade to let a developing 2 go. Golden State with Curry and Monta. Phoenix tends to try to stick two point guards in their backcourt. They had Dragic/Bledsoe and now they have Knight/Bledsoe. Washington is pretty close with Beal at 6'5 and Wall. Actually, I guess Miami won with Gary Payton and Dwyane Wade, who are both under 6'5, but he wasn't technically starting.
I see no reason the Blazers would look to move CJ...having two guards scoring 50 a game isn't a problem...I just want CJ to swap spots with AC and bring his off the bench.
GS didnt try for long and Miami did it, but they had Shaq on the inside, so I get what your saying except... I could be wrong, but arent most guards in the 6'2"-6'6" range, putting our guys right in the middle and not really smaller? Im just trying to think off the top of my head at guys like AI, Isiah Thomas, Payton, Curry, derek Phisher, Steve Nash, John Stockton. Arent all of these guys around the same 6'4"
I still say, everyone is operating on the flawed premise that CJ is the one to trade. You said it yourself, they're too similar. So, why trade the up-and-comer with less value? It makes no sense. As for the Miami example, Wade and Payton were all-time great defensive players, and Wade has the wingspan of a PF. Height was not an issue. White Chocolate was the starting PG, though, wasn't he? At least one of your back court players needs to be physical. I can't imagine there are any examples of a team succeeding with two short finesse guys.
I looked it up, and while Jason Williams was starting, during the playoffs Payton was playing 30 minutes per game off the bench.
That's Golden State for ya. Theyre a royal flush If the players were other teams they'd be solid, like a high card, but together, they fit perfectly and are greater than the sum of their parts.
Dallas would be pretty similar. They played Kidd listed at 6'4'' , Terry 6'2" and Barea 6'0" These 3 guys got far and away the most minutes in the back court that season http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/DAL/2011_depth.html Actually we would be bigger with Dame 6'3 CJ 6'4" and Crabbe 6'6" (again these are the listed heights, I assume they are embellished for all 6 players)
It's always a little shocking seeing them next to each other. On their own CJ looks tiny, and Dame looks fairly normal.
