Also I doubt Oregon will be able to place tolls on the actual bridge. Even with an auto pass program they'll still require some toll booths and there is no room for those on the Oregon side around Jantzen Beach. My guess is they'll put the toll booths after the Expo center so Vancouver residents will have the option of parking there and taking the Max to the downtown core.
Traffic would be helped out if Vancouver would get a max line out there. Assholes clog two lanes trying to merge at the last second on i84 to i205.
We were the assholes for trying to force the new interstate bridge with only a Max option. We spent $175 million on nothing. They don't want Max and we acted like we knew what was best for them. We could be halfway down with a new bridge by now but no.... we had to force Max up Vancouver's ass. Dumb.
Well, actually it turns out we did know what's best for them. Wouldn't a new bridge with a max line have been better than no new bridge, which is what they've got now? If Vancouver wants a new bridge they can pay for it themselves, that's my position now. I don't want a new bridge, and I'll be doing what I can to make sure that any new bridge proposal doesn't get funded by Oregon. barfo
If we would have offered what they asked for which is a new bridge with no Max they would have agreed to split the cost.
I've never really thought about Washington/Vancouver...... work up in Seattle a couple days a year and that's about it. Have no reason whatsoever to go there. Kinda funny if you live in the 'Coup that you would dare talk smack about Portland. And I have the opposite when it comes to taxes.....my refunds are TOO big! I need to have my accountant change some shit around. I don't have a 9-5, so I don't really get caught up in the traffic.....I do know that I-84 is getting slammed mid day now.
Like my neighbor behind us. We were in need of a new fence and the cocksucker behind me didn't want to split the cost with me.
So if you would have let your neighbor suck your cock he would have paid half the cost of a new fence? And you turned that down why?
And why would that have been a good deal for us? We don't need to drive across the bridge every day. And we certainly don't need anymore traffic. barfo
The bottleneck of the current interstate bridge causes backups on Portland highways and roads. It affects our local economy and liveability. Also since container shipping is now limited in Portland being able to ship goods in and out of Portland to the port of Seattle is vital for our local economy. This isn't about keeping those icky Vancouver people out, this is about the health of the region. And as far as Max goes I believe it was Portland State who came up with the plan of making the current interstate bridge Max, bike, and pedestrian only and leave the new bridge only for traffic. It would have had a huge reduction in cost and construction time.
Stuff can be trucked over the bridge in off-peak hours, we don't need a gazillion lane bridge for that. The only reason we need a gazillion lane bridge, and the only reason the current bridge causes backups (aside from the drawbridge aspect) is rush hour traffic from Vancouver commuters. barfo
