This is what Bynum used to get all the time.

His knees have an expiration date.

Exactly. This is a preventative measure. I had a similar injectible Synvisc with platelet therapy 8 years ago for a bone on bone condition in my right knee. Albeit I'm not a pro athlete, but I haven't had issue since the injections. This is a good thing and I bet you'd be surprised the number of athletes that get this treatment regularly that goes unnoticed. The orthopedist that did my injections told me college athletes get these injections quite often to prevent deterioration and keep knees healthier during continuous pounding on knees. Trust me - this isn't a big of a deal as you think. I was playing softball 2 days later with no issues. The 6 weeks timeframe gets him to training camp. That's what matters.

Now if it was micro fracture...

This injection, then, indicates that Portland was indeed worried about Ezeli's left knee. If it was causing him pain, then it was smart to do this now rather than during the season.

When Ezeli returns, he will not necessarily be given minutes to play himself back into form. Mason Plumlee will likely be the Blazers' starting center, and Ed Davis, Meyers Leonard and Noah Vonleh will all be battling for playing time behind him. This isn't an Andrew Bynum-in-Philadelphia situation just yet, but do not be surprised if it takes Ezeli a little while to get healthy and earn a spot in the rotation.

Regenerative Injection Therapy with Whole Bone Marrow Aspirate for Degenerative Joint Disease: A Case Series

Seven patients with hip, knee or ankle osteoarthritis (OA) received two to seven treatments over a period of two to twelve months. Patient-reported assessments were collected in interviews and by questionnaire. All patients reported improvements with respect to pain, as well as gains in functionality and quality of life. Three patients, including two whose progress under other therapy had plateaued or reversed, achieved complete or near-complete symptomatic relief, and two additional patients achieved resumption of vigorous exercise.

Concentrated Bone Marrow Aspirate for the Treatment of Chondral Injuries and Osteoarthritis of the Knee
    A Systematic Review of Outcomes

BMAC treatment appears to be a safe procedure that is growing exponentially, most likely because it represents one of the few categories allowed by the FDA to deliver stem cells (minimally manipulated). All the studies included in this systematic review reported good results, but they used different outcome measures and this heterogeneity does not allow for direct comparison.

He only signed a 2 year contract, so if he doesn't work out, no big deal.

It's not like he's an old washed up geezer hobbling up and down the court like Ewing was at the end of his career with the Sonics...bagged in ice on the sidelines...he's young enough to heal.

When you give a guy like him a job, you take care of your investment. Whatever legal edge he can get through treatment is just good for his career..I'm just glad he has meniscus tissue unlike Roy.

Not sure about all you, but I wouldn't turn down an injection like this on either of my knees!

Remember when basically everyone thought Ezeli would start?

10-15 mins a game. Writings been on the wall with Festus, we're swinging for the fences.
