My "opinion" was that he defended Salmons and Salmons didn't score. It's actually a fact that you disagreed with, and since you had the opinion on that play, I'd say you are being "OVEREMOTIONAL".
Yep. You're right. Everyone's wrong, and you're right. The rest of us are overemotional when we disagree with you. It couldn't just be the one side sees more cons than pros, and other sees more pros than cons. My bad. I dread the threads here the day KP trades Travis. It's going to be brutal on both sides.
Actually, the one consistent theme I see are posters who will tear down Blazer players no matter what happens. Why, some even disagree with the fact that Outlaw stopped Salmons from scoring on the last play of the game. Is it all rosy? Of course not, but I save my posts for the hyper-critical posters, and you seem to fall into that category. Is Outlaw an All-Star? Of course not, but like it or not, the team tends to win close games when he is on the court at the end. This makes it 17-6 over the past two years in games of 5 or less, I believe.
I still think Webster would have defended Salmons better; Webster moves his feet FAR better than Travis on Defense. I'm looking forward to his return.
Take a little time to read up on my posts if you get time. I don't post often, but I'm rarely hyper-critical. I simply disagree that Travis is all that important in the bigger picture. I firmly believe that if you put the average SF into Travis' place, we'd either have zero change, or a very small lift or drop-off. That's not actually negative about Travis, but I simply think we can do better and be more consistent. I'm really unsure if Martell is it, though Batum really has amazing promise. At this point, I'm simply making sure there's some disagreeing views after post, and post, and post of people saying "look how great Travis is!". At best, he's average with good nights. At worst, he's actively hindering the team. Not unlike Oden's last few games... but if Oden was hindering the team in his sixth season, while having minor breakout moments in between lulls, I'd be mightily concerned and feel the same way. I'm not hyper-critical, and I didn't take it lightly when I unboarded the Outlaw train. I don't think he'll ever become consistent, and I think his heroics have become a bit overrated. If he hadn't fouled Sacramento (and not even on a shot attempt!) two plays earlier, then taken a questionable shot on the previous offensive possession, we may never have been in a situation where you and I are arguing over that last play. In a nutshell, that's my frustration with Travis, and his up/down play is the only thing in which I find he's consistent.
I think what he is trying to say is that Travis' defense didn't cause the miss. He was guarding him, but Salmons went right by him and had a fairly easy shot that didn't go in. Yes he traveled, but you keep saying it is fact that Travis guarded him and he missed. While true he didn't miss because Travis guarded him. Travis is a bad basketball player. He doesn't understand rotations, spacing, or help defense. Travis is a great athlete. He can get his shot at will, and can leap out of the building.
Yup. Travis defended the play, but Salmons simply missed. He'd likely have missed against many players there, it was nothing specific to Outlaw's defense. It's not like how Roy handled Joe Johnson in the clutch last year, leaving us all with our mouths open. There was no question Roy shut him down. (Also agreed on Travis's crazy athleticism. That and his great reach weren't noted in my Pro's list earlier, my bad)
The problem with Travis' Pro's are that Batum has the same one's, but has got to be at least 100 points higher in basketball IQ
He is what he is. He's a solid, undersized PF, who has improved his game from one-dimensional to multi-faceted. We needed him last year a lot more than we necessarily need him now, but he's still very valuable to the team and the success they've had so far. I would agree with most of your comments if they're were said last year, but this year, overall, I'm pretty excited at what he can do for us in a reserve role and, at times, in he closing minutes of the game.
