Of course not. Murph is not that type of player. The consistent thing that he does is rebounding. He's a hardnosed baller.
The whole team should get inside and rebound more, starting with the center and Murphy. I am mostly talking about on the offensive end, because there is no effort at all to get offensive boards. Compared to last year, especially from Cardinal, this team is pathetic at rebounding the ball offensivly in order to get more chances and extra possessions for the offense. Also as good as Murphy is at rebounding, I think he and the Warriors could use some help at boxing the other team out on the defensive boards. I know earlier they had trouble with that, with the likes of AK47 and such.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">At least Murphy won't try anything he can't do. He sure looked like a poor man's Dirk Nowitizki the other night. 3/4 on 3 pointers and 14 boards. WtWalker called that one.</div> Good memory... While it'd be great if Murphy developed a post game (and I think he still will) I don't think it's criticial that your pf be a good post scorer. You really only need one good post scorer on the court to have that covered, in fact it's better if you only have one post scorer on the court at any one time because otherwise the lane gets clogged up. So even if Murph doesn't have much of a post up game now, if the Warriors had a sf or c that was a post up scorer, they'd be fine. Now I hate asking "what if" questions, but what if Jamison was still on the Warriors? I remember saying back in the '02/'03 season that Jamison and Murphy were an excellent duo at sf/pf on the offensive end. Jamison was a fantastic offensive rebounder and low post scorer. Murphy drew the double teams out of the lane because you couldn't leave him alone 18 feet from the basket. But Jamison sort of got the same treatment that St. Jean got. Fans and the media couldn't wait to run them out of town so they could give Dunleavy and Mullin the keys to the car. BUT...since we can't wallow in the past (well we can...it just isn't very productive...) it's better to focus on what the team's options are for improving the problem. Here are the options as I see it: 1) Hope Murphy improves. Given how well he's shooting the ball right now, I have to think adding a post game is the next thing on his plate, since he (hopefully) won't be spending next year's off season learning a new coaches system like he did this past off season. 2) Wait for Biedrins to develop. I don't think this is a bad option either. Mullin and all the scouts prior to the draft raved about his hands and court sense. He wants to be an inside player, and I think the only thing holding him back are age, strength, and playing time. All of them should improve during the course of the next year or two. 3) Draft a big man. I wouldn't advise this since they already have Biedrins and Murphy, but it isn't totally out of the question. Chris Taft would be a nice fit if Murphy were to move to center. But, I think the Warriors would be bettter off going after a pg like Felton or Paul. 4) Trade for a post scorer. This is another option if the Warriors decide to move Dunleavy or anyone else.
