The U.S. Postal Service's Board of Governors, consisting of six members, are all appointed by the President. Currently four of the six members are Republican and one will become a Republican on June 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Board_of_Governors_of_the_United_States_Postal_Service.
I realize they cant be run totally like a private business but sound management can be utilized with plans and support to help. The 2006 pension law they passed put the hurt on them, so congress needs to straighten it out. The money put aside hasn't been fiscally managed properly as intended. In 2006, Congress passed a law to require the USPS to prefund 75 years worth of retiree health benefits in the span of ten years—a cost of approximately $110 billion. Although the money is intended to be set aside for future Post Office retirees, the funds are instead being diverted to help pay down the national debt.Feb 5, 2020
BS...you obviously don't use them for business/commerce. And not everyone is hooked up with online banking.
I was in the Mfg. dist. business for 40 plus years and yes the post office was an important way to get certain products and or communications to customers. However, the back bone of any distribution/logistics is the use of Trucking Carrier and some use rail, UPS, FedX an DHL. You must be able to insure and track shipments of value to your customers.
This appears to be a stupid move by Congress at the time. I wonder if Congress could revise that. I just hate people denigrating the Post Office when they do an awful lot of good for the country and I'm most certainly no talking about you. I consider you to be reasonably fair on issues, but then you already know that.
So does Fed Ex and UPS. I've tracked packages using those services. I get my VA meds from UPS and from the USPS. In fact with USPS you can get on your smart phone information on what mail will be delivered to your home the next day even letters. Now, how cool is that?
I wish the UPS driver would knock on my door when he delivers a temperature package of insulin to my front door. Sometimes it sits there all day before we accidentally see it. We've called the UPS office and told them multiple times but still no result.
I believe you can get notification from UPS if you set it up. https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-center/tracking-support/sms-track.page
Get a dog so when the UPS guys drops your packages off they bark like hell and you know why! jk Actually we have two devil dogs and I can be in the back yard and know when something or someone is at my door.
Have you tried using it? It sucks balls and not even Sly's balls. The post office has been in trouble for 20 plus years. My father was a Union rep for the city of Portland PO from Lentz station. Employees treated like they were in boot camp. PO not wanting to pay retirees their promised benefits, etc. The post office is a huge wreck, but its because of lack of funding. It cant sustain itself and needs to rely on Fed aid to keep up and running. that fed aid will always be as little as possible just to maintain open doors, which means they will always be th shipping entity with the least amount to offer....unless they raise their shipping prices to what the actual going rate is.
We used to have a real good UPS driver who would deliver packages at 10:00 at night if that's what it took to finish his route... but they changed his route and now we have this guy who is always talking on the phone while driving and delivering...we live on a dirt road and when it rains hard he arbitrarily decides not to deliver even though the road is just fine...I too have complained multiple times to UPS over the last few months but nothing has been done.
This is actually extremely over due. Finally a President addressing the issue instead of just compensating.
Yeah, they've been doing it for a few years now. I know because I've tracked some shipments for a few years now.
I've used their tracking for a few years now and have had no problems although using it at least once a month, average. I've explained some of the reasons it can't sustain itself and Hoopguru has explained perhaps the biggest reason. None of these explanations involve any fault of the Post Office.
Raising USPS rates a bit is fine, but to "quadruple" them as dipshit suggests is just silly. Our Postal system was not created in order to be a money maker...it's a service.
