He used the slurs. Pretty much all of them except the N word. That was the cowardice.

    You were born in America.
    Your national origin is American.
Your culture is whatever you want it to be.
Your religion, or lack of, is nobody's business. Especially not the government's.
Your nationality is Native American, unless or until you disavow it or commit treason.

I have no idea what your complaint is.

Lanny`s post should be deleted. It is 50 years too late to impart any lesson of value and clearly violates the rules. Seems like we're always seeing some rules for somebody and no rules for somebody else.

I prefer no rules for anybody but am fine with whatever rules APPLY TO EVERYONE ELSE.

Your post may be an example of your early family life and upbringing, and your parents circle of friends. It's not an example of the 5,000 or so fine Americans who also lived in Oswego at that time or any other.

Wait, someone posted slurs and or racist jokes to show how it used to be in LO? Seriously?
How out of touch can you be.

Doing things like that is not acceptable at any level of society.

Actually, he made a historical reference to a saying that he claimed was said when he was a child living in that area, and then brought up a list of other groups that were slighted, and the references that were made.

It's not like he made a racist joke.

I have the screenshots. He literally said it was "the joke going around" and he said it was "spoken to another White Nationalist"

Then he posted the actual joke and used a word for Jews that I haven't even seen in the comments on yahoo.

That doesn't change anything that I said.

He was explaining how when he was a kid this was the joke going around. That is the textbook definition of "context".

Ahh. Deflection. You said he referenced a "saying" when in FACT he repeated a joke that he just casually threw out there and followed with a list of people he described with slurs. Jonnyboy would be gonnyboy in a heartbeat for the same thing.

I'd post the screenshot but I'd get banned.

I don't even say certain words when I listen to Public Enemy in my car but I sing every part of The Highwayman...my Willie Nelson is on point.

It isn't acceptable now and never will be again. I already forwarded it to the sponsors I found on google. I don't know who runs things like Standard Tv and appliance but I figure Spirit Mountain Casino might not look too kindly on anything remotely racist or anti-semitic.

    I see.
Well I generally trust sly to be fair so I'll go with that.
The other mods I don't trust at all. PP is the closest but even he skews the line at times.

I will say though, context is not an excuse to say certain things.
I don't know what was wrote, nor do I want to know. Simply will say context is not an excuse.

It was an example of the type of racism that once existed in Oswego, Oregon.

Here's the thing. You know this isn't how it went down. I know this isn't how it went down, and most importantly, the businesses aren't going to take you seriously.

Saying he reference a joke/phrase (which is what he did), and saying he "repeated a joke" that he "causally threw out there" is saying the same thing. The difference is, historical context.

If I posted a picture of some of the propaganda posters from the 1940's, about Japanese people and German people, it'd be considered offensive now. But in the context of discussing a topic about it, it would make more sense than just randomly saying it.

If Lanny had said it out of context, or had a history of saying racists or inappropriate things, or in the case of the poster who was banned for dropping the N word several times after being warned not to, and did it in a way to antagonize or personalize a person or a group of people, the point would be stronger.

This is no different then how the republicans freaked out when whats her face mentioned it's not possible to make Barron Trump an actual Baron, just because his name is Baron. They knew exactly what she was saying, and their fake outrage is silly. Just like this fake outrage is silly.

Since that's not why Marazul was banned (temp or not), I don't see why you think this is the case.

Neat. So I take it you were super offended during Django unchained?

Here's the thing. If this website "needs to die" and/or you're trying to submarine it, why don't you just leave the board? If I don't like something, I leave. I don't continually complain about things and beg for attention.

If you saw just how many of the "reports" we get from people who are reporting every single slight, even the most slight of slights, you'd be surprised at how many of them don't qualify for editing. Especially the reports made about the more conservative members of the board. It's not some grand conspiracy. We're not near organized enough for that.

Bullshit. I was banned for 2 weeks for simply out-debating SPD in a friendly discussion. No slurs, no insults, no names, no rules violated.

The post is a vile insult to everyone I grew up with and it's been shown to be fictional on top of disgusting.

Nobody believes you would allow everyone here to post the same thing.

    You mean in your home.

Oswego has always been one of the most progressive and accepting communities in Oregon.
