The more legitimate voters who vote, the better, IMO. Voting by mail or absentee is much more convenient and I doubt is any more susceptible to fraud/mistakes.

When I lived in Seattle I had no car. My polling place was a 45 minute walk. Part of it was unpaved. No bus service. And November in Seattle usually rains. Back then you could only get an absentee ballot if out of town election day or disabled. Some elections I was unable to vote because between work and heavy school schedule just couldn't manage. Now I vote by mail every election, and BTW ballots only sent to registered voters.

One aspect of vote by mail that is often overlooked is that it helps people make more informed decisions. When you go to the polling station you just have a limited time plus all the knowledge you brought with you. At home you can read through issues and research people and issues in much more depth.
