Which is the only realistic way to do it, and it is working exceedingly well.

Obama invited large numbers of taliban to come to the US illegally, many have been arrested recently, there’s been no outrage.

Sounds like you want everything America has to offer without putting any skin into the game, while criticizing those who gave skin....or even more. Rationalization 101. Got it. Why do you hate America????

Elevates Taliban to status of head of state. As usual no preparation, no agenda, no plan. A photo op

Haven’t heard the taliban mentioned in awhile. I thought we forgot about them and found a new boogeyman.

I like the way he thinks I confessed to military censorship and propaganda..as a guy who worked in a combat zone as a radioman .....I won't bother to tell him the other stories....there are plenty. I worked for Nixon's team whether I liked it or not....that sure worked out well in the end eh? The leaders of the anti war protest movement stateside were mostly war vets. Vets had a lot to do with ending that war. I don't even consider taking his posts seriously anymore...sad...another guy throwing bags of shit on vets returning from war. I was getting drafted whether I wanted to join or not.

Yeah, I'm perplexed by that too. Though I suspect it'll be some unrelated, fallacious rambling nonsensical answer, with a dash of "Real American" thrown in here and there, with a topping of Central Oregon/La Pine clap trap for flavor.

Have you noticed that some of the most "patriotic" and gung ho for war people, are those who never actually fought in any war or served?

He's going full on character mode now. It's impressive from a certain point of view.

I’m not a huge fan of war or the military for that matter. I did not enjoy my time in the military and I certainly didn’t make the effort to to be all I could be. But the military is a necessary evil and I volunteered. So I had/have no one to blame but myself. And it’s why I try to thank vets when I see them. Often that thank you might seem trite or overworked, but these folks volunteered, regardless of reason or motivation. They have no choice but to go where they are sent and to perform whatever tasks are assigned. Shit happens. Real democracy is messy, with a lot of moving parts. Sometime we have to do things we don’t agree with. Guys like @MARIS61 want to live in a democracy that suits their individual needs without doing any of the work, while criticizing those who are actually working to keep democracy limping along in an increasingly authoritarian world. But then, he’s just exercising the rights democracy allows him......

I am Vietnam generation. There were those who supported the war and served. I don't agree with them but they did what they thought was right. There were those who opposed the war but when called served because they thought it was their duty or simply didn't have much choice; it's not like turning down a civilian job offer. Serve, leave country, go to prison. I understand those who figured a 2-year stint and then done was their best option. And there were those who opposed the war and did not serve. They also did what they thought was right. The ones for whom I have zero respect are those who were so gung-ho supporting the war but refused to serve, like Cheney & Trump.

Meanwhile, back to topic, Maris once again shows he does not know history. There is no comparison between Taliban and Arafat. The United Nations had designated the Palestine Liberation Organization as the official representative of Palestinian people and Arafat was PLO chairman, so regardless of what you think of Arafat and/or PLO, any peace negotiation between Palestine and Israel had to include his input or it wouldn't happen. Taliban has no such status. And despite PLO status there was significant protest among some Israelis as well as in the US and Europe over including Arafat. So once again Maris is wrong twice over.

Just another attempt by Trump cultist to divert attention from the Chosen One's absolute incompetence.

He knows they're not comparable, he's doing it as a troll, to get a reaction out of people.

I agree. So what is the policy regarding those who blatantly troll the forum? Whatever that is, should be implemented.

That would be extremely hard to define and enforce.
