The problem with killing new production, is political in how to shutdown NewPort News Carrier production yards. Thousands of jobs!
Then when you kill the new production, how do you keep these yards open to service the current fleet through the next 50 years or what ever life span is? Hard to manage a massive facility like that with a Carrier in for maintenance occasionally.

I suspect Trump is the right guy to begin this process.

BTW. Shipwrights take years to develop.

 

There's the negotiation and in-your-face points to be considered also.

China's President is trying to look impressive by building an aircraft carrier. Something they've never done.

Finally does it and on his big day Trump simply un-retires one to counter.

Really exposes how sad China is when quality industrial accomplishments are necessary.

 

A jump carrier isn't really the same game.
