    VA gave hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 to 1,300 veterans
    In addition to treating approximately 1,300 veterans with hydroxychloroquine for the coronavirus, the VA has also prescribed the medication to approximately 7,500 for non COVID-19 conditions since the start of the pandemic.
    The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday it has sent out 14.4 million doses of hydroxychloroquine to 14 cities, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Baltimore, from the federal government’s national stockpile, a source that also provided South Dakota and California with supplies. The agency said earlier this month it had sent 19 million tablets and didn’t explain the discrepancy between the two figures. The U.S. government received a donation of 30 million doses from Swiss drugmaker Novartis on March 29 to build up the stockpile, which does not normally stock the drug.
    Wilkie, in a separate letter obtained by NBC News, said that the VA had made the drug available pursuant to FDA guidelines “because some of our Veterans and families are requesting the use of hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment."

    this is surely an example of the presidents influence concerning unsubstantiated benefits without regards to its potentially detrimental effects. in times past the one touting the product would be labeled a 'snake oil salesman".

    FDA revokes authorization of drug Trump touted

    The Food and Drug Administration has revoked its emergency use authorization for the drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine for the treatment of Covid-19.

    Hydroxychloroquine was frequently touted by President Donald Trump, and he has claimed to have used it himself.
    After reviewing the current research available on the drugs, the FDA determined that the drugs do not meet "the statutory criteria" for emergency use authorization as they are unlikely to be effective in treating Covid-19 based on the latest scientific evidence, the agency noted on its website on Monday.

    One of my Alabama aunts takes it for her arthritis. I presume she'll be able to continue it for that purpose. I had to tell her about taking an EKG for her heart on a periodic basis.
