You know what real dumb-dumb talk is? Asserting that half the population of Latin America would leave their home to come to the U.S. First rate hyperbole though.
Why wouldn't they if they could? You guys living in fantasy land if you think a nation should not protect it's borders and allow a free for all of movement, especially when you're a 1st world country living near a 3rd world country.
Because unless it's the Irish Potato famine all over again, or some massive world war, there's just not going to be 50% of a country's population pulling up stakes and moving to the 'Good ol' U.S. and A. I know this is going to blow your fucking mind, but most people prefer the country they live in. With totally open borders you'd for sure get a slight up-tick in immigration from poorer places in the near term, but there's a set-point where the opportunities would start to dry up and a sort of equilibrium would set in as these countries depopulated themselves. The only way that wouldn't happen is that if the out-migration from Latin America was all of their wealthy and most highly educated. The laws of supply and demand are just as applicable to labor as they are to widgets; this is like Econ 101 type shit.
You're right, we only get the dregs of Latin America coming here illegally. People up in the hills and shack house communities that have no skills and no education. Educated and successful Latin Americans have no reason to leave their home country. If they do, they can just do it legally.
Again, this is similar to only arresting illegal drug users but not the dealers. If you want to drastically reduce illegal immigration then penalize the people hiring them and lending them money. Illegals can get an auto loan, illegals can get a mortgage. Going after children, teens and young adults is the ultimate low hanging fruit.
Also I've seen a lot of paychecks from illegals and yes they pay taxes but they all claim 10 allowances on their W-4s because they can't file for a return. They pay as little taxes as they possibly can but that's a good thing according to our president.
