    Ok, I appreciate your inside knowledge and sense of history, especially the history. But, the lady is a Democrat which is nearly required there. So, what is my error?

    Oh btw, it seems pretty odd the people would vote for Statehood given the back ground as you said. I was there in Hawaii when it officially became a State. The people seem pretty happy about it at least where I was.

    Kamehameha schools were started by a hawaiian princess in 1897
    vouchers weren't part of the reform parties platform when they siezed control of the kingdom.
    before that they forced the Bayonet constitution upon the monarchy.
    i agree with you completely about the disgrace of the annexation.

    was only trying to help you understand one of the reasons why republicans have not done well.
    Seems to me that after 60 years of oversight,taxation and governance without representation as a territory that having population based in the house of representatives and 2 members in the senate would certainly be a reason for joy.
    ps-edit forgot to mention that hawaiians only make up about 10% of the population. a would bet it was a similar # in 1959
