Nonessential employees won't be working or being paid. How about we get rid of them, since they're nonessential in the first place? I'm actually happy when government shuts down. It actually proves how much of government isn't essential. Few people miss anything it does when it's shut down in the past.
but you'll get your paycheck, right? I'm sure it's not a disaster to shut down govt..but it does carry risks and even military families have mortgage payments and bills....delaying their checks isn't going to be making them happy
Military personnel are essential. Called for specifically in the Constitution. I should have said, "few people outside government will miss anything due to the shutdown." That would be the 99% who aren't part of government. The last few times, panties were in bunches over the national parks being closed. Is that all you got? Yeesh.
Armed Forces Network won't even be up to carry the NFL games. Going to see an explosion in r/nfl streams tomorrow.
Duckworth slams Trump: I won't be lectured on military needs by a 'five-deferment draft dodger' http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/...ectured-on-military-needs-by-a-five-deferment
well I was going to get a passport renewal ....and you could be right ...might not be a big deal for a weekend...weak sauce from the GOP given they control the majority across the board. What do you have against national parks anyway?
I like how IRS is laying off 40k employees. I can see it now. We demand you pay your taxes now! What's that? Oh you got a refund? Sorry we dont have staff to write checks.
All the snowflakes are saying if we dont get our way we arent going to pay the military then we are going to drop on the floor and flail our arms till daddy buys us the lolly. That's right snowflakes, trump is your daddy!
There lies the reason why these politicians care less. They get paid for poor performance unlike a real job where you could get canned. The entire Congress is a wealthy class privilege.
I keep seeing this from people...you know that the majority can't beat a filibuster, right? That's why it's "#schumershutdown". This isn't how ACA got rammed through 60-39...it's that 50-49 can't beat the (D) filibuster. I could be severely wrong on something, but that's why all these comments (not the Trump memes, I know from whence they come) about "R's can't get their shit together...R's control everything...". No. There may be a reason to "not kick the can down the road" (which I can understand, if not agree with) and "we need to have a lasting agreement on immigration" (again, Poland seems to have that one figured out) but this seems very much to be the minority filibustering (which is their right, and one of the few cards in their power) to ensure that my sailors don't get paid, but that an illegal immigrant can stay longer.
Some did, but it requires 60 votes to end debate and actually vote on the Bill. Republicans do not have 60 votes.
America is all about providing safe sanctuary for those fleeing injustice elsewhere in the world...we have courts backlogged with these cases...the last figure I saw was 50k cases pending.....not enough judges and lawyers to process them. Some of these families fled here from Noriega's death squads, etc....so an El Salvadorian child born here from refugee parents that is 40, has a career and raised a family here is now to be deported? I don't know about you brian but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth...so many of our forefathers came here in similar fashion from Europe and elsewhere...are they really a problem? I don't think so......they should not be lumped in with cartel criminals who do business and reside here...it sets a bad precedent for the promise on the statue of liberty
