A statement is being made. The cake has baked. The ship has sailed. The WIN NOW plan is over. This just a salary dump, pure and simple. Crash will opt out over the summer anyway, so we dump his salary and get a couple picks in return. Then we have enough money under the cap to give Crawford what he really wants, which is a 1 year deal and the chance to be a FA next summer. Then we rebuild around LA, Batum and Matthews.

I'm not thrilled by any means. I like Wallace a lot. A cap space plan worries me. I do like the flexibility it provides, but I'd also like to see us use any TPE we got from Wallace 9.5 million.

Gerald Wallace traded on Nic's 23rd birthday.

I know there's not a need, but I liike Marshon Brooks from the draft, wouldn't mind taking him from NJ.

That's my line of thought. If the Blazers can leverage multiple first rounders for a player who is past his apex then this is an outstanding long term move.

Here's our roster if we trade Wallace for Crawford and picks. We have only 12 of 15 spots filled. I guess Matthews would become a full-time shrimp forward.

    C
    Marcus Camby
    Kurt Thomas
    Chris Johnson
    F
    LaMarcus Aldridge
    Nicolas Batum
    Luke Babbitt
    G
    Raymond Felton
    Jamal Crawford
    Wesley Matthews
    Armon Johnson
    Elliot Williams
    Nolan Smith

But we get some draft picks. Just wait 5 years till one of them becomes an all-star like Gerald Wallace, if we're lucky.

By the way--Crawford is 2 years 3 months older than the supposedly old Wallace.

Yeah I don't want to dump Wallace right now for cap space; We'd probably be this years Warriors, not able to overpay DeAndre Jordan $40 million and settling for Kwame Brown for a $7million season.

I'm actually pretty excited over the ability to have LMA, Wes, Batum, Smith and Williams (and Babbitt), 25M in cap space, 4 picks in the top 20 in this draft (ours + potentially a lotto pick and NJN and HOU's protected pick), a 9.5M TPE and the ability to re-sign Oden at the right price.

The warriors couldn't make a SuperFriends team. We could. Except we'd have 2-3 established stars, with Nic and Wes as complimentary players, maybe Oden, 4 picks from the best first round in years to stockpile talent, and a 9.5M TPE to get whatever we need to round it out. Or to use to take on salary and future picks.

EDIT: RR7 was right, and the TPE would probably have to be used by the deadline to be effective, but could potentially net us another player and more picks.

If you find yourself in a hole the first move is to admit that you are in a hole and the second then is to stop digging. Wallace is a fine player, but keeping him and trying to trudge on with him as a centerpiece probably wasn't going to yield much real success (as measured in championships).

If the trade goes through this is a good thing people, yes it might mean one step backward in the near term, but it opens up a ton of possibilities by the summer. This is the proactive approach I've been advocating for a year+ for this team.

I'm actually giddy when I read that. Are there any guarantees? Nope (and there never are) but I'll be damned if that isn't exactly where this team wants to be now that Roy is retired and Oden's future is even more murky. It's not the dreaded "blow up" that people fear, but it also clears the decks enough that this team has a real shot to remake the roster in roughly one year and be damn competitive if they do it right.

Im sorry but tanking is for losers.... bad franchises do that. You always try to win and retool as the mavs do. This is a easy way out.

Not to mention does anyone have faith in blazers drafting ability??? Not me...

Would Roy and Oden also technically fill out the 15 spots too? I guess your 8 man rotation is probably Felton, Wes, Elliot, Crawford, Batum, LMA, Camby, Thomas? Sounds like a #8 seed to me.

Tanking? Nope, I don't see that at all. As for their ability to draft ... well, I guess we'll see what happens.

This is a great trade for PDX... Wallace does not fit with Nate's offense and Batum needs to start and play heavy minutes. Signing Crawford allows us to stay somewhat competetive but with this trade we still get a shot at the lottery next year.

    I really hope this happens.
