I have no idea why he decided to make that stupid comment. Not very smart on Tyrus's part. Even though the Dunk Contest may seem cheesy, Tyrus should at least feel honored he has the chance to participate in such an event. If he didn't feel up to it, might as well give up the spot to someone who wants to participtate

His attitude is pretty bad. I remember talking to someone about it before the draft (I think it was VC or C.K.). IMO they should get him out of the contest and get someone who actually wants to be in there. He was the 4th pick in the draft so he gets decent money for a rookie and it's guaranteed. With this type of attitude along with his 3/2 stats he puts up, he won't get much more than his rookie salary.

lol, how funny would it be if the money he got fined was more than what he earned for participating?

    That would be great.
I'm sure he would resemble a disgruntled employee at the all star game.

    He was fined $10,000.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Bulls fined forward Tyrus Thomas $10,000 on Tuesday, one day after the rookie said he only was interested in the money for the NBA's slam dunk contest.

The first Bull since Scottie Pippen in 1990 to participate in the event, Thomas was quoted in Tuesday's editions of the Chicago Tribune as saying: "I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day."

When asked if being around some of the game's greats could be beneficial for a rookie, he responded, "I'm just into the free money. That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."</div>

US sports leagues/teams always go too far on fining people, even to the point of where any opinion of their's is worthless or threatening when it remarks the league itself specifically. They need to take a long hard look at European sports and see what is so wrong with their own league/team. There is no point in fining the young man so much money for comments like that when that is already on many other player's minds.

I'm glad he got fined. He shouldn't be making stupid comments like that. I hope the NBA either replaces him or he gets booed like crazy in Vegas. He needs to show some respect to the game's great players and quit being such an ass. After talking about the legends like that, I wonder if that will effect their judging since many of them are on the panel (Jordan, Dr. J, Nique', Kobe, and Vince).

If it does effect the judging then the NBA is even more crooked then first imagined. The league is full of crap as it is, I give Tyrus full credit for his remarks and I don't even really care for his current play on the Bulls either. This is all a bunch of trash, which is common coming from a North American sports league. I can't wait until you guys read my next article, you can find how screwed up they really are. lol

Football players admittedly only go to the Pro Bowl so they can get a free trip to Hawaii. In a game where players claim that the league is trying to create an image at their expense its nice to hear some honesty.

I'd much rather hear a player answer a question rather than spit out some canned response. This ****'s just Fascism.

P.S. If the players have a dress code because this is (as the league has said) a "Business" I don't see why an "Employee" can't say he's in it for the money because that's all the owners and league officials care about too.

Oh you have no idea how bad it really is, I can't spill the beans now, but you'll find out more about that subject soon enough. Makes me sick thinking about it!

You should know by now that David Stern rules the NBA with an Iron Hand. He is the closest thing to a dictator that professional sports has ever seen.

Oh I know. But the fine was issued by Paxson. And even people in this thread are upset at Tyrus and happy he was fined.

I was speaking more to the people who feel Tyrus shouldn't have said those comments. He gave the answer that you would want to hear if you saw him at the mall, not because of a shock value but because he spoke to you as one person to another...which is honestly. I understand not liking his response but saying he shouldn't have one that contradicts your own isn't cool. He can't be the only one to feel like that and instead of giving the "right" answer he gave the honest answer.

    Veteran Response=Trained Response

From now on when Tyrus gets asked a question he'll think first before opening his mouth.

The kid is a joke, should've stayed at school.

Not only is he a joke, but he's an idiot...he could've used the education. Why the hell would you make a remark like that with Stern as commissioner. With the way he's been playing, he'll need all the money he can get. He's been god aweful and I know he's still very young, but reminds me of a Kwame Brown/Darius Miles case...never lives up to the potential.

why is this such a big thing? Media said they should put up a million bucks as the reward so kobe, vince, lebron etc would sign up for the the dunk contest and actually be entertaining.

Tyrus probably shouldn't of said what he said, but it is the truth. You can't say anything really bad about it... like his the next kwame brown *sign*
