Eh, it might be a starting point. I want to watch this fight muted so I can't be influenced by the commentators or the crowd. According to people over @ shit dog, it makes it a lot easier to see how Machida won.
$60,000 "of the night" bonuses: Pat Barry (Knockout) Stefan Struve (Submission - Triangle Choke) Pat Barry & Antoni Hardonk (Fight) Missing weight cost Anthony Johnson more than $3000. He was ineligible for the "of the night" bonuses so lost out on the $60,000 knockout of the night award.
Did you hear him say the reason he missed weight was because of that knee injury? Do you believe him, speeds? Or do you think it is a cover up?
Well there had to be a reason considering he's made weight in the past. Whether it was an excuse or the truth I don't know. But perhaps the issue isn't that he was injured but that he's just cutting too much weight, pushing it too far.
I dunno, though. He said he ballooned up when he injured his knee and it was just too hard to get down this time. I guess we'll know next time.
One more thing, where the hell are the people that were saying Okami deserves to be in the title shot picture. Dude got fucking tooled last night. Thank you for proving me right, Sonnen.
Mostly because he has a win over Anderson Silva and people want to see Spider avenge it. Okami is a good wrestler plus nothing.
I didn't get to see his whole fight cause I was watching a stream and the fight got fast forwarded but I thought Okami's stand up looked more fluid than in the past. Obviously it's still something he needs to improve on, but to me, he's still a top middleweight. The lost to Sonnen is definitely a set back though. Although losing to Sonnen isn't a super huge upset, Sonnen is a pretty talented middleweight himself.
1. He was 8-1 in the UFC prior to last night. 2. His only loss was to previous champ Rich Franklin, and it was a decision. 3. He had previous "beaten" Anderson.
You're forgetting the most important thing...he hasn't fought in forever. I don't care if he was 8-1, 22-0, or 10000-1. You don't get a title shot right away if you've been gone for forever for whatever the reason is, including injury. It showed last night, Sonnen dominated him. He had no right being in that octagon with Sonnen last night...he would've had no right to be in the same arena with Anderson Silva. He needs to re-prove himself before the words title shot are thrown his way. And it was proven last night. Thank you, Sonnen.
Machida did land a lot of counter shots when Shogun would kick. Maybe the judges scored that? Either way, I'm fine with the decision even though I think Shogun won. I can't wait for the rematch. Someone is getting KO'd.
It's easy to say someone didn't deserve a title shot as soon as they lost, and going 8-1 in the UFC is no easy task. You could say the exact same thing about Maia that you just said. " It showed last night, Marquardt dominated him. Maia had no right being in that octagon with Marquardt... he would have had no right to be in the same arena with Anderson Silva."
I didn't think Maia was deserving of a TS, either. So uh..yeah? And I said before last night's fight that Okami wasn't deserving of a title shot because of his long lay off. So what are you trying to tell me?
lol, it seems here everything is taken personal, and there is an S2 rule that says not to make any personal attacks. So if you do not understand what I said then I guess I won't say anything further.
Shogun got ROBBED!!!1 I know, I know. "To be the Champion, you clearly need to beat the Champion." But Shogun beat Machida. He was robbed. He beat him in every round.
i finally watched the fight and i have no problem with the decision. i felt like all the rounds were pretty close. i would have given shogun the 1st and 4th and machida the 2nd and 3rd(which to me was the only round i felt like couldn't potentially be seen going either way). the 5th round seemed like basically a toss up to me. it does seem strange to me though that all the judges had shogun winning the 5th but losing the fight. oh and joe rogan is a joke. the entire fight all he did was talk about how shogun was winning regardless of what was happening. both guys would land something and he'd talk about how shogun landed a great shot while making no mention that machida landed just as good of a shot. i'm confused as to how you had shogun winning the 3rd. that seemed like the most decisively won round of the fight to me and i thought machida definitely won that round.
Well Joe Rogan geeks out for leg kicks so it's no wonder he was favouring Shogun. The fight metric for the bout had Rua landing 82 strikes through the bout to 42 for Machida. The closest round was the third round with Rua edging out Machida 18-13 in total strikes landed.
