    Some thoughts...

Joe Lauzon looked great against a mediocre opponent. Dunno if it means much. His striking is no good and he has trouble with good wrestlers. Seems destined to be a middling lightweight. Gabe Rudiger embarrassed himself tonight. Reminded me of GSP/Trigg. Just a squash match.

Nik Lentz was boring as hell. Only by a freakish streak of injuries and cancellations was he able to get onto the televised card. Probably the last time for a while. Winner was at a disadvantage. Ross Pearson should be teaching those guys how to wrestle.

Nate Diaz looked good but he leaves his hands so low and opens himself up so much. Love to see him follow in his brother's footsteps and fight Gomi. Marcus Davis is unlikable.

Randy Couture did exactly what was expected of him, which is not a feat to be overlooked. James Toney was every bit as green and unprepared as expected.

Frank Edgar fought a similar fight to his last but a bit better in most areas, save for take-down defence. BJ Penn has finally ceded his fair-weather desire to compete.

Gray Maynard = boring. Kenny Florian = B+ fighter. These are the top contenders?

Give the next shot to Evan Dunham.

Also, LOL @ Couture getting his black belt for submitting a no belt.

Outworked and out positioned the entire fight. Penn lost. Look like he quit too in the final round. Im a huge PENN fan, but nothing I can say to cover up this loss at all. All us island boys at the bar looked like fools today... lmao......

Armed Forces Network (Japan) showed the hype session, the Spike undercard and the PPV. My second time watching MMA (and first for more than one fight).

Thoughts? I thought that Lights Out did a pretty piss-poor job of training. Good on him for taking the fight, but as I understand it Couture is a pretty good MMA fighter who's known for takedowns/chokeholds, right? NONE of the training montages of Toney showed him on his back with an MMA guy applying chokeholds (or even sprawling, for goodness' sakes). He had to know his only chance was to maximize time on his feet where he could punch, and he looked silly after the first takedown. I give him credit for making it 3 minutes, b/c I've seen a guy knocked out in one kick.

On the pre-fight special I got awfully tired of BJ Penn running his mouth about how Frankie only won the last one when his trainers paraded him around on their shoulders and changed the ref's minds on the scorecard. I got tired of his "I'm the best, and it's not about winning, it's about hurting him" schtick. Maybe this guy is the Muhammad Ali of the Lightweight class, but nothing in his fight showed "I'm world-class and deserve this rematch".

Joe Lauzon was a ball of fire against an overmatched opponent. I was surprised that his opponent took 8 elbows to the face, 6 uppercuts in a row, and then submitted a couple seconds later on the armbar. I mean, I know it's a good move and it hurts, but I'd be pissed if I got beaten the eff down (and still managed to keep fighting) only to lose on a submission hold a bit later.

Gray's style seemed boring, but effective. I guess he's a) the #1 shot at the title now and b) the only guy who's beaten Edgar. But Edgar looked absolutely great against Penn.

To recap, I probably wouldn't pay 50 bucks to see this every month, but if it was on somewhere I'd probably stay, especially if I could get some backstories.

There are reports circulating that he took in $750,000 + a PPV cut.
