Renan Barao is hoping that taking this fight on short notice will help earn him a new and improved contract. He made $11,000 + $11,000 for his last title defence.

That should be the Main Event. Winner gets a title shot and Cormier is a beast.

    135ers don't exactly excite me.

Couldn't help it, threw $25 on Hendo to win $138. Those fists always keep him in a fight. I fully expect Cormier to win by decision or TKO, but if Hendo can escape the clinches, he can tag Cormier on the way out.

People are saying Hendo is having trouble staying over 200-lbs. with his new routine. He may return to middleweight after this fight (supposing he loses).

Re: UFC 173: Barão vs. Dillashaw (May/24)

While I do understand that lower weight classes may not be as interesting as let's say welter, middle, and so, watching a fight in which a man who is on a 22 fight win streak (32, should have been a DQ against Souza) and has the chance to be dethroned is pretty interesting to me. If Dillishaw wasn't a part of TAM, I would definitely not be as interested, but the fact that Dillashaw has studied Barao so intesively, helping Faber back in his last two fights with Barao, it could be interesting. I don't see it going the distance, either Barao wins or Dillishaw shocks everybody, but I think lower weight classes are quite entertaining, and the storylines there are equally as interesting.
Unfortunately, I don't think Hendo stands any chance, and like you said Speeds, the rumor is he's dropping back to middle and I see that happening. I think it may be the best move if he wants a belt before he retires as he'll have to wait for the Gus and Cormier (assuming DC wins) fight, and get himself back in title contention.
Will be a great pay-per view though. 174 looks to be absolute filler, being stuck between a stacked 173 and an even more stacked 175. (which would be more stacked if Faber was facing somebody else...)

He was on the scale in a video yesterday and he was 196 I believe.

Would Dillashaw beating Barao be a top-5 upset of all time? Would have to be up there close to Serra-GSP I think.

    Dan Henderson - 199lbs.

Not good. Cormier will have at least 15lbs. on him.

Should go down as one of the biggest. No fluke to his performance, either.

    Eventful night!

Mitch Clarke's submission was really spectacular. For a guy like Al Iaquinta to get caught from top position is something special.

Katsunori Kikuno giving us a reminder of why Koji Oishi's strategy ten or so years ago was a poor one. Keep your hands up.

Hate to say that I really felt no sympathy for Jamie Varner as he wobbled around the octagon. The guy has cried wolf so many times I just don't trust when he starts up with an issue. Looked like he couldn't stop rolling his ankle. Whether it's broken isn't for me to speculate on.

Jake Ellenberger is a shell of his former self. I don't know where he's gone. Pretty easy night for Rob Lawler.

Daniel Cormier's performance against Dan Henderson would've been the storyline of the night. He ragdolled him. Joe & Goldy couldn't remember that Jake Shields also grapple dominated Hendo but it wasn't a close comparison anyway. Cormier toyed with him.

Hats off to TJ Dillashaw. That was a complete performance. I don't know if Barao ever recovered from the shot that dropped him in the first. He couldn't deal with Dillashaw's movement. Dillashaw did an outstanding job of landing his shots and getting out of the way. Barao was fighting shadows. TAM finally get their UFC belt.

DC vs. Jon Jones will be interesting whether or not Jones is still champion. Is his wrestling game enough to overcome his massive reach disadvantage?

    DC ragdolled Hendo. Hats off.

DC will do the same to Jon Jones. His strength advantage will be too much to Jones and Gustafsson. DC will be LHW champ by the end of the year.
