Saw most of the fights tonight so a few thoughts to share...

Ben Nguyen went from being Reddit famous to being UFC famous tonight. Looks like a great prospect.

Danny Martinez was winging a lot of punches and apparently that's how you get a decision against a less active fighter. Not really impressed with either of those guys.

Wasn't Anthony Perosh retired at one point? I'm guessing he's going that way again. Gian Villante making it look easy.

Kyle Noke--Joe Rogan said he's good enough to be a top-10 welterweight because of performances like this but he needs to start stringing them together.

Jake Matthews is just raw aggression. Interesting to see where he goes from here. Needs strong coaching but has a lot of potential.

Rosholt/Struve sucked. Can't say that about almost any of Struve's fights. Not himself tonight.

Bob Whittaker looked good and I was surprised to see him handle Uriah Hall the way he did. Hall fighting too much lately?

    Hunt/Silva was anticlimactic.

JJ/Latourneau was less competitive than I think Rogan made it out to be. Valerie looked great on the ground in the first round then abandoned that strategy despite getting outpointed and bruised up on the feet. After this fight I'm more interested in JJ/Gadelha. If Gadelha has improved even a little since they last fought it should be a pick-em fight.

And Holly Holm. Wow did she look great. Did Rousey's striking get exposed? Was Rousey's world self-appreciation tour enough to wear her down? She looked petulant and insecure this week leading into the fight. Not going to make excuses for her--she ran into a superior striker and wasn't able to take her chances grappling. Kudos to Holm and coach Wink who prepared a solid game plan and went with it. You could tell when Holm had Rousey down and stood back up that she wasn't just fighting (unlike Latourneau) -- she was thinking, too.

If Conor McGregor loses next month DFW will be on suicide watch.

Honestly though the only thing better than having Ronda steamroll girls is to have her lose in spectacular fashion and be able to build her back up for an epic rematch. This is not a bad night for the UFC by any means.

so does anyone else think Rousey may have lost because of hubris? I mean she looked like she wanted to prove she could strike with an elite striker and not rely on her judo. In a rematch I gotta think Rousey fights hard to clinch and throw Holm and then armbar the crap outta her. Or maybe holm's jab will keep her at bay and the outcome will be similar... can't say for sure but I want to find out. I'd love to see Holm vs Tate and Cyborg vs Rousey first but IMO Rousey vs Holm 2 will come first.

Petulant, arrogant, stubborn, all of the above, but the narrative that she abandoned her traditional game plan in an attempt to show up Holm is not true.

She tried repeatedly to clinch and throw Holm as she does everyone else. Firas Zahabi did a wonderful breakdown of the fight here:

TLDW, Holly drilled the fuck out of clinch and throw defence and armbar defence and it worked.
