It seems every career pretty much goes the same way. You win your first six fights, then get in over your head a little and knocked out or submitted. Then you repeat the process, winning two or three fights, getting forced into a fight with a guy much better, and losing again, until finally your skills are up to snuff and you can handle most guys except the very top of the class.

Strangely I was able to KO Heath Herring (ranked 14) but I got my ass handed to me by Eddie Sanchez (ranked 17).

Finally got this game today and it definitely is bad ass. The only things I'm really good at doing right now though is wrestling or boxing. I'm 9-2. Lost my very first fight, and lost my fight against Forrest Griffin. He gave me a huge ass-whooping.

I'm getting good at building my fighter up, thanks speeds. I'm in year 5 and have made 5 title defenses so far. I'm deadly with the headkicks.

My standing striking offense is 72. My standing kicking offense is 69. I also built up my clinch game (I'm MT). Being in the HW division, I built up my ground game defense and sub defense.

    Awesome advice, speeds. Thanks!

HW is almost done, WW is next.

I just bought this game today, but I've only played a little bit so far. When I feel I'm decent, I'll take some of you chumps on.

Anyone else have it for ps3? Or do you all guys have it for xbox360? If anyone has it for ps3 we should play online sometime when I get better as well.

I read how you guys said to ground n' pound then try to submit, but I'm still having trouble trying to get submissions. So far on career mode, I'm owning by getting KO's in every 1st round so far but I keep getting KO'ed on the sparring matches :(

Submissions are hard. You need to get your BJJ or whatever up to level 2 at least before you can get subs over good fighters. Make sure the stamina bar is visible when you're fighting and attempt the sub when your opponent is totally gassed or all red.

    My HW just got retired.

    Retired HW champion.

I really used speeds advice, my fighter's stats were so well rounded (Mostly in the 70's, striking offense and striking kicks in the 80's).

I retired on a 16-fight win streak. :] My last loss was to Frank Mir. I avenged it, though.

    Final record: 29-3.

    Overall fighter rating was 84.

So apparently you can unlock open weight fights if you clear out each division with the lowest ranked fighter. If thats true it would be sweet, gonna go give it a whirl and see if it works.

Edit: yeah its a BS cheat don't bother trying it.

I noticed that the height difference between fighters is minimal within weight classes, which probably means the game requires similarly sized fighters for clipping issues. Having Sylvia against Tyson Griffin would probably make the game look horrendous.

I've got 4/5 belts right now, working on LHW (didn't finish first time around). Unlocked a couple of the TapouT tools (except Skrape). Unlocked most (all?) of the shorts. Still haven't made a guy out of the career better than 82.

to unlock skyscrape you need enter up(x3) , down, left ,right, up and start at the title screen.
Funny thing about career, I went through half my first career without knowing that you had to hit action to do the camp invites, guy still turned out pretty well ratings wise though so I was surprised.

I've accidentally refused a camp invite a few times, the menu navigation in the game is just so slow i tend to mash buttons to get through it.

I'm still trying to find a balance between resting, training, and sparring.

Has anyone made the HOF yet? I've only been considered a "ufc veteran" which is kind of insulting when some of my guys have won the title two, three times and defended, five, six times.

    Haven't made the HOF yet.

I've taken a break from it. I've been playing MLB 2K9.

I think I'm going to go for the LW belt, next. Wrestling and boxing. Short and stout, fighter.

My first fighter was a 62 or something, second one was a 84.
