No, a lot more countries than Turkey are standing in the way of that. It absolutely won't happen while the war is still on. The western support they want is tougher and better enforced sanctions and a lot more military equipment. especially the big howitzers and the HIMARs. And they want to hear, especially from Biden, that the goal is a total military victory by Ukraine.

Which is exactly what needs to happen. The US is in the right this time, and can win a lot of good will if we do it right. These are the types of engagements we should get engaged in and we should use our full economic power for success.

Then we just have to make sure a decent human wins the next election (Biden winning would qualify), so we don't take a dozen steps back...

Total military victory for Ukraine is an absolute MUST.

Never happens. There is no such thing. Stop the invasion and push them back sure. But it's never total and never truly a victory. For many years after this is done there will be bloodshed.

As long as Russia is pushed out of Ukraine borders and there are sufficient defenses to maintain those borders then its total enough.

Russia will keep being aggressive and disputing the border to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. But that's to be expected until Russia collapses, at least.

    "Total Enough" Okay.

"Russia Collapses" That won't happen. China will not let that happen.

Well, obviously you're not going to eliminate Russia's military or occupy all of Russia. Getting them out of Ukraine and keeping them out is total military defeat.

China will likely be collapsing as well. They are the most rapidly aging population in the history of the world. They will probably collapse under their own weight in a decade without significant help from the US.

This is getting close to a former disagreement between Denny and Riverman... I was there for it then and I'm here for it now.

I am worrying lately. I know Ukraine wants to beat them so bad that they won't come back again. And I know Biden and others are worried about this happening and what would be russia's reaction. Besides the nuclear theat, russia can (and already has done) do a lot to destroy the world economy. The sharp drop in commodity prices in the last two weeks (and gold) could portend a worldwide depression.

My problem is more with the loss of life and liberty to the average person in the Ukraine. That alone should make the world respond.

I also fear that the ultra rich will see a way to make more money by allowing the bloodshed to continue and then make even more money building back both countries.

It all just becomes money for the machine and the average people are the ones who are always enslaved.

Russo-Ukrainian War, Day 134: Russians take an operational pause and prepare to attack Sloviansk, a new key battle in the Donbas. Russian authorities restate Putin’s initial objectives for the “special operation” in Ukraine, including regime change and territorial expansion far beyond the Donbas. Russians shell the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, a rocket hit a university in Kharkiv and two Russian missiles hit agricultural hangars in the Odesa Oblast. Russia stopped the transit of oil from Kazakhstan to Europe.

Massive artillery attack on Donbas: Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Avdeevka during the officially announced “pause” in the Russian Federation operation. Oil depot on fire in Russian-occupied Donetsk. Russian soldiers shoot civilians in the Luhansk Oblast. More than 200 (since downgraded to "dozens") Russians killed in the Ukrainian artillery strike. Ukraine Army eliminates three ammo depots in Ukraine’s south. Shelling of Kharkiv continues. Ukrainian forces continue to make gradual advances in the Kherson direction. World hunger rising as U.N. agencies warn of “looming catastrophe.” EU bureaucracy blocks 1.5 billion-euro loan to Ukraine. Putin says Russia “hasn’t even started anything yet” in Ukraine. State Duma of the Russian Federation hints to the USA about the return of Alaska.

Lavrov left the g20 meeting Bc the west wants Ukraine to win

Below is some classic Russian logic

West: we are going to do everything to stop the Russian invasion
Russia: you can’t stop us from coming!
West: we are going to do everything to stop the Russian invasion
    Russia: fine then I’m leaving!

    and

“the sanctions are pointless so they must end now”

"Day 136. Russian forces did not go on “operational pause” in Donbas and continued to launch assaults on settlements along the Kherson-Mykolaiv and Kherson-Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border to regain lost positions. Near Sloviansk, the Ukrainian army destroyed 12 tanks and other military equipment and repelled the Russian offensive. Zelensky visited the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast close to the front line. In the Donetsk Oblast, the Russian ammunition depots are burning. In the Kherson Oblast, the Ukrainian army destroyed ammunition depot, air defense units, and personnel. At the G20 meeting, Anthony Blinken demanded that Russia unblocked the export of Ukrainian grain but overall the diplomats failed to reach a consensus on the war."
(my opinion on Brittany Griner: Putin does not respond to public pressure or humanitarian appeals; they only help him realize he has a high value asset for trade and ups the price it will take to get her out.)
