yes that happened. I think allowing Ukraine to join NATO would have been more of a deterrent. I don't think Ukraine would have started a nuclear war even if invaded.
I'm pretty sure they had the big rockets to launch them; I think actually Ukraine was big producer of those rockets at one time.
You could very well be right. I heard the people in charge who had the codes and ability to actually make them work left with the fall of the USSR. But that could all be propaganda as well. Either way, just having them would have prevented the attack, I'm sure.
I think Ukrainians must feel confused and letdown right now. They were criticized earlier in the war for not sharing enough military info with USA. So apparently they shared more and now they find out USA is not a reliable partner as far as keeping info secret. I hope that it doesn't turn out to be some politically motivated individual who leaked all this information. Also, they have been told by their western "allies" that they need to show some progress soon in the war if they want to see continued military support. However now they hear from the same people that they don't think Ukraine has enough men and equipment to have a successful offensive. The reason they wouldn't have enough is becasue the West has been so slow to provide more tanks and armored vehicles. USA Abrams tanks will not be in Ukraine until late Fall. The Leopard tanks, many of which are the older model 1's have been slow in arriving. There is not enough ammo for artillery, because USA and NATO have let their supplies dwindle over the years and because countries like Switzerland, S Korea and Israel are witholding supplies, somehow claiming they need to be neutral against the monstrous russians. A video released yesterday in russia shows russian soldier cutting the head off a Ukrainian POW while the man is still alive. Not one word from russia that this is unacceptable. How confusing it must be for Ukrainians that the russian nation, whose armies target civilian buildings with their bombs and artillery, whose soldiers loot, rape, torture and murder as a matter of policy, whose leader orders assassinations worldwide, this nation presides over the security council of the United Nations.
I read the leak came from a gamers discord, trying to prove something to his other gamer friends. Doesn't sound politically motivated, just sounds dumb.
Somebody first had to remove paper documents from secure facilities and then photograph them and get them to this Discord guy. These were not hacked into. It was clear it was photographs of paper documents that had been folded, perhaps to facilitate removing from the facility.

Looks as if world came very close to a serious international provocation. It really shows the sloppiness of russian military; that a fighter pilot thinks he can fire on a British aircraft solely on the OK of a radar operator.
