So weird; I love both Damnation and Heritage, but I feel like Heritage is more emotionally intense than Damnation. The last minute of Folklore, the first minute of Haxprocess, all of Lines in my Hand... there's a ton of very intense music in there. But, I'm an old and a prog-head to begin with, so if they want to be a Rainbow-meets-Jethro Tull act, I'm probably more down with it than Opeth's "normal" sound.
Only if your post is coming from 1991; everything after Empire is total crap. Yes, even Promised Land. Jesus, that album is horrible!
The Animals 10 years after Dick Dale Cheap Trick (still waiting for someone to give me a logical reason they aren't in the rock and roll HOF) Spirit Talking Heads Nazareth Violent Femmes
i like the song promised land, but otherwise agree. also pretty hard to make a case that they were underrated or underappreciated in their prime. OM and Empire were hugely popular getting a ton of airplay, and OM is widely considered one of GOAT rock albums, sometimes mentioned as best concept album of all time.
I wore this cassette out in middle school because of this song.
Damn! You must be as old as I am. Saw them open for Black Sabbath at the Glass Palace in the early 70's.
