Good tips to get as much from the stimulus plan as possible. That extra 600 a week for 4 months in addition to unemployment is craaaazy.
@THE HCP you may still qualify for unemployment depending on your situation since you lost other jobs outside the Blazers.
I'm a bartender, so obviously I'm screwed for the time being. Everyone at my work was laid off. They're currently doing food and beer to-go, with management/owners running the show, just trying to stay afloat. It's a very successful, locally owned sports bar, but I don't know how long they'll be able to keep the doors open. I just had a baby boy in January, which changed my perspective on everything in an instant. I have wanted to go back to school for years, so, at 37, I finally took the plunge. My plan was to go for a B.S. in Nursing, and become an R.N. However, the last few weeks, I've been reading anything and everything about COVID19 and other past outbreaks, and I'm obsessed. So instead of Nursing, I'm going to get my Bachelor's in Microbiology and go on to grad school to study epidemiology. Better late than never right? So hopefully this global health crisis will turn out to be a blessing in disguise in some small way for me and my family. That's my story! Hope you are all staying safe and healthy and I can't fucking wait til we can all watch our Blazers again!
A friend of mine who got his PhD in microbiology while I was getting my BS from the same school once told me that you can't do anything in microbiology without a graduate degree. If this is your intent, my advice is to put ALL your effort into getting that degree. Forget this place. When you get the degree and a big time well paying job, remember the Blazers and your good buddy, Lanny.
The American public can never take things for granted ever again due to this virus and others that will follow. I suppose we should prepare for a future without steady work. I thought we learned that lesson on 9/11/01!
Yep. Except you'll be in school 7ish years to get a B.S. and PhD and you'll end up 200k in debt to hopefully make what a nurse makes.
My old friend makes money hand over fist. His greatest accomplishment as of 25 years ago was discovering how to grow vast amounts of herpes rapidly. I think he learned it while fooling around with hookers.
For sure. That’s what makes it such a tough call, since my dumbass waited til my late 30s to figure out what I wanna be when I grow up. I almost have enough credits for my Bachelors, so it’s mostly science classes I have to take, that’ll buy me some time to weigh the options.
Hot tip: You'll be more successful if you do what you want rather than what El Prez wants you to do. barfo
There are a lot of things you can do with nursing. Or being a Physician Assistant. You can specialize in epidemiology. Get an Masters in Public Health. Whatever. I just think with a microbio route you'll end up in a shitty job in a lab or want to do pharm sales once you see the pay.
I read that as, “Physician Assassin”, and was like well thats a profession I hadnt heard of before...
