Exactly. Adding a bunch of laws making it unlawful to sell them something, when it is already unlawful for them to be here, while the State, Counties and Cities don't enforce that law is ridiculous. Most sellers have no way to comply.
Right now we have a system that is similar to trying to stop illegal drugs by only going after the drug users but completely ignoring the drug dealers. Our laws only punish the people illegally coming here but not punishing the people profiting off of him. That makes no sense. An illegal can get a car loan and a home mortgage. An illegal can get a job. An illegal can rent an apartment. And if you're personally selling a car to a private party and only signing over the title to them you're opening yourself to HUGE liability and potential legal problems. Say you sell that car to an illegal and they get the car impounded. Guess who the state comes after, the last registered owner on the books and that would be you. Some sloppily handwritten bill of sale won't mean shit. As far as the state is concerned you're still the registered owner. Now think about if you sell your car and they do a hit and run, police find the car, run the plates and guess what.... it's still registered to you. *Knock Knock* "Hello Mr Azul, we need you to come with us..." Pro tip: If you want to sell your car have them meet you at the DMV, make sure the new owner titles that car into their name.
I think your Pro tip: would be more than worth while. Especially if they began deportation of any illegal detected. But, I thought if you follow this procedure, you were following the law. https://dmv.odot.state.or.us/cf/vehiclesell/index.cfm
Did you actually read that? It asks for you to enter the ODL number of the person who is buying the car. Which is something that you're arguing you shouldn't have to do.
No it doesn't. It asks for a Drivers License Number (If Available) Not necessarily Oregon. Could be Del Norte. In any case, the seller has no way to know if the number is valid or not.
Heck of big difference here Sly. The Drug dealers are selling an illegal substance. The guy selling a car is not.
Ha! BTW, that got a chuckle. Actually, not only read it, I did it. I met a couple from New Zealand last fall up in Washington. They stop by down here for some time on their way South to Cal. I sold them an old beater for about three weeks and bought it back when they left. No profit, just a favor without risking my ass.
Was great when i moved to sc i had to show my bc to get license then dmv lost my bc and i dropped my wallet in the parking lot that had my ssc cause i was job hunting. Ended up having to order a bc then had to get a new ssc then a new license since my bc wasnt enough i needed a bill with my name even though i lived with parents and had no bills. Needless to say i spent like 2 months not existing while illegals collected food stamps. Merica.
In Nevada we keep the plates. I also register the car on the DMV website as being sold. Holding the prior owner liable for someone else's hit and run is idiotic and only seems like something Oregon would do.
I released the vehicle in the state's eyes when I fill out an online vehicle release. I did so when I donated my last focus.
This is funny. An old Ford Focus is what I transfered for short time to the Kiwi and German lady last fall. She had an International permit. I have no idea whether it is good or not.
I gave mine to a vet who needed a car and had a veteran group to tinker with it. Needed some work but was a great car.
