My thoughts on the homeless problem is to stop putting money on the back end like placing a band aid on a festering boil.

I believe in triaging the homeless. In other words, finding out why they are homeless and then send them where they can get help for what it is that makes them homeless. Need a job? One will be provided. Need an apartment to go with that job? Done. Until you have a few paychecks under your best and can provide for yourself. I mean, hell, with the minimum wage even fast food workers now have a living wage if they spend it wisely. Druggie or alcoholic? Get them to treatment centers and provide some sort of safe shelter and hopefully they may be able to work again and then they go into the work side of the triage. Mental health issues? Get out of the democrat party- ok, ok, just kidding. A halfway house and mental health assistance to make them as safe as possible.

Work on the front end and not the back end.

Now, for those who refuse help, then they get no services. Services are tied to accepting the help. And I understand that there needs to be shelters... and those can be provided. But the goal is to make as many homeless, unhomeless.

I'm unclear - what is the 'back end' in your thoughts here?

The studies I read state to catch homelessness as early as possible provides a better opportunity to turn it around for people.

We have to change the system which corrupts our elected leaders. It's that simple.

Yeah. Most of this is right on, IMO. However, the way you make somebody unhomeless is to get them in a home.

Homeless, they are more exposed to the elements. They have no sense of privacy or security. The best thing they can hope for is somebody to feel sorry for them, or to get their next fix.

You do that first and have a social worker assigned who knows how to get a person diagnosed and how to find the care or rehab they need and knows how to navigate the system.

With a safe and secure place to live, people who were homeless can regain perspective. You're less miserable so the high becomes less important (not that this cures a person, but just ratchets down the incentive). All of a sudden it sounds nice to hit a restaurant. Maybe find a date. Then you want to look good for that date. That takes money...

Better clean up their problems so the date will like them more. Maybe check out the treatment that social worker suggested...

And then they can get a job so they can be more impressive to the date... And that new iPhone looks really cool...

It's just a different perspective all together.

That, and homeless people cost around $40k per year each in damage to the city, police and emergency services, Etc.

Housing them costs a fraction of that and immediately improves our cities.

NYC Gig Workers Mugged & Ignored, Now They’re Launching A Guard Network For Protection.

This gig work should never exist in America. It is essentially outsourcing American jobs to Americans, by turning workers into contractors instead of employees. Saving the corporation money and putting most, if not all of the burden, on the gig worker.

Our government knows this is wrong, they just look the other way while American workers get screwed over.

My grandfather worked in an Alabama coal mine. My father told me the story of how the miners marched across the railroad tracks to protest their low pay. Pinkertons ambushed them with machine guns and killed a few. Each widow was given $50 and that was that. When the miners continued to strike the owners flooded the mines never to reopen again.

The Real Reason the Economy Might Collapse.

America's wealth gap is more extreme than it has been in over 100 years.

Greed at the top is why Americans are becoming poorer.
