Nabisco Workers Latest to Strike: They Want to "Take, Take, Take".

Jordan speaks with Mike Burlingham, a Nabisco worker who's worked for the company for 14 years in Portland Oregon, about the workers' strike that has now spread to other Nabisco bakeries throughout the country.

 

A personal anecdote: I’m beginning to see the housing frenzy start to slow in my region. Houses sitting on the market longer, prices going down, less dipshits from out of state wandering around bumping into things. Interested in some other perspectives from far and wide…

 

Interestingly, not 10 minutes ago I received a “Zillow Estimate/Offer” in the mail offering me a generous (but silly) sum if I want to sell them my home. These are the idiots who are artificially inflating our property values. If there was some way to cut these scum off at the knees, prices would likely return to something near “normal”…….and maybe the housing crisis would ease.

 

My wife was in that union for years and years.

This is insane.

 

My grandpa was the lead mechanic at the plant there on Columbia Blvd. He had a loaded retirement.

 

My wife worked for Grandma's Cookies shortly after they moved to their new plant in Beaverton. She was a member of that union for about 35 years.
I was in a different union in Seattle known as SPEAA (Society for Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace). We had technical and professional bargaining units.
So, both of us are big boosters of unions. I've heard what life was like before unions from my father and from history books.
My greatest peeve was that Washington state has a law that says we must provide union help in grievances for employees not in our union. Companies also must provide the same benefits that non union members get although they do not have to go on strike. Membership in a union is non mandatory. So, no dues, no strikes yet all the benefits. WTF?

 

Cheers union brother. I’m a proud Teamster of 15 years. 21 more years to go until I get to bask in my retirement life.
