Let's start this off by saying I have no ill-will towards any player who helped us on the court. This isn't personal at all. With that said, in our hearts of heart, we all know the Trail Blazers have retired jersey numbers of players who would not have had any hope of been retired if they were on other teams. So, if you can only un-retire ONE jersey number then who is it and more importantly WHY?
Also, not to only Pick on POR as there are teams who have retired players who also don't belong imo. These include, Brad Davis of DAL and Don Nelson of BOS to name a few. But with POR having the 2nd most jerseys retired behind the Celtics, something is out of place.
I just don't think it is a good idea to single out one player. I think they should move all of them to a ring of honor and unretire their numbers.....except for maybe Drexler and Walton. (Keep those numbers retired)
If that is an option that POR would consider then sounds great. I under no delusions anything is going to happen. I was just looking at retired jerseys across the NBA and bored enough to make a post. And Dave, if you happen to frequent the forum; thank you for our Title!
I think Dave got in on the buddy system but really none of it bothers me much at all..Portland has retired more jerseys than some but we also have less sports competition in the city to weigh it against...I think that group winning in 77 did something really special and I don't try to water it down with comparisons because we are sort of the Siberia of the NBA as far as geography goes and we won a championship with the odds stacked firmly against us back then...if they move them to another honor role that's fine too.....I think Lucas deserves his jersey retired as well as Walton
Not sure why you included Bobby Gross, since even if they removed him #30 is also retired for Porter.
